Guido Roffi (1924-1973) was a Welsh professional footballer. An inside-forward, he joined Newport County in 1947 from Tynte Rovers. He went on to make 112 Football League appearances for Newport, scoring 27 goals between 1947 and 1951. [1]

In 1950, Roffi scored four goals (all with his head) during a match in which Newport beat Aldershot 7–0. [2]

Roffi was ineligible to represent Wales due to his Italian roots. His parents had previously traveled to Wales from Lombardy, Italy.

Roffi died at the age of 49 after suffering with illness. To mark his passing, the 'Roffi Cup' was set up in his memory, a football tournament in which Cynon Valley junior schools compete.

Billy Shergold Welsh footballer

Billy Shergold was a Welsh professional footballer, born in Slade Street, Newport, where his Grandfather moved for work from Wiltshire in 1886, a mere quarter-of-a-mile from Somerton Park, home of his future team Newport County. An inside-forward, he joined Newport County in 1947 from Bishop Auckland. He went on to make 273 Football League appearances for Newport County scoring 48 goals, at the time Newport County were playing in Division 4 (North) and 3rd Division (South). He is the 7th longest serving member of Newport County. In 1956 he joined Weymouth with 104 appearances and 37 goals in two years.

George Beattie was a Scottish professional footballer. An inside forward he began his career with Southampton but only played 1 game in the 1947–48 season.

John Frederic Beriah Moore was a Welsh professional footballer. A winger, he played for Cardiff City F.C. and scored the only goal for Cardiff in a friendly against Moscow Dynamo in 1945. In 1950 he joined Newport County from Bangor City F.C. and went on to make 121 appearances for the club, scoring 45 goals. In 1953 he rejoined Bangor City. In later life he became a director of Bangor and died in his eighties.

Leonard Ernest Staples was an English professional footballer. A full back, he played for Leicester City and in 1949 joined Newport County. He went on to make 164 appearances for the club, scoring 2 goals, between 1949 and 1957.

He made 61 English Football League appearances for Newport, scoring 3 goals before joining Rotherham United in October 1964 for a fee of £10,000. Pring later moved on to Notts County F.C. and finished his career at Southport due to a bad leg break.

Desmond Warren Tennant was a Welsh professional footballer who scored 40 goals from 400 appearances in the Football League playing for Brighton & Hove Albion.
