Guillermo Romo is a Mexican businessman, currently the President and CEO of Grupo Mega, a financial consultancy for businesses. He was formerly the owner of his family's business, Grupo Industrial Herradura, which he sold to Brown-Forman Corp. for $876 million. [1]

Career

Romo was the sixth generation of his family to own and run Grupo Industrial Herradura S.A. de C.V. (Casa Herradura). In January 2007, Brown Forman purchased a substantial portion of the 136-year-old company's assets. Romo retained control over Herradura's agricultural lands and production, and remains the contracted supplier of Herradura's raw materials.

Through his career, Romo has substantially diversified his family's assets, particularly into the financial industry. He is currently a majority stakeholder in financial services company Grupo Mega, as well as Millesime, a private investment company. He is also a shareholder in the Miami-based broker-dealer Global Securities.

Philanthropy

Romo is a founding member of the Americas Business Council Foundation (ABC), a knowledge-sharing platform for young business leaders. Within the foundation, he heads ABC Fellows, a group of 20 business leaders under the age of 40 which discusses political, environmental, religious and economic issues. He has also been named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. [2]

Romo also currently serves on the Board of Directors of Endeavor Mexico, an international non-profit development organization that supports high-impact entrepreneurs in emerging markets.

Tiendas Comercial Mexicana S.A. de C.V., colloquially known as La Comercial and La Comer, was a Mexican hypermarket group that operated mainly in Mexico City and Central Mexico. It was founded in 1930 and operated by Controladora Comercial Mexicana. From 2016 to 2018 it was owned and operated by Soriana, which also owns Alprecio stores. Comercial Mexicana, including its different store formats, was the third-largest supermarket chain in Mexico as of 2014.

Tequila Herradura Mexican tequila distiller

Tequila Herradura is a tequila distiller located in Amatitán, Jalisco, Mexico. It was formally founded in 1870 by Félix López and the business remained in the family for over 125 years. Today it is owned by US beverage maker Brown-Forman, but the tequila is still made in the same place and facilities under a Mexican subsidiary. Tequila products sold under the Herradura name are 100% agave. The company makes other tequila products such as El Jimador, which is the best selling tequila in Mexico, as well as New Mix, a tequila and grapefruit soda beverage. Since its acquisition by Brown-Forman, Herradura has had a number of promotional efforts in Mexico and the United States, including inviting artists to use tequila barrels as the bases for art pieces, which are then displayed and auctioned off for charity.
