Gulshan Club [2] is a social club for residents of Gulshan located in the Capital Dhaka. [3] [4] The club has been described as "exclusive". [5] [6] Rafiqul Alam Helal has been the President of the club for the year 2021-2023. [7] currently Anowar Rashid is the President of the club. [1]
Gulshan Club was founded in December 1978. it was registered under the Joint Stock Companies Act of 1913. It is officially called Gulshan Club Limited. Membership to the club is restricted to the permanent residents of Baridhara, Banani, and Gulshan. A 12-member Executive Committee which is headed by the president of the club. The members of the executive are elected annually. [8] The club has a gym and swimming pool. [9] The Clubs holds New Year eve's celebration. [10]
On 29 December 2007 Engineer M. Faizul Islam was elected President of Gulshan Club. [11]

Khandakar Abdur Rashid, better known as Abdur Rashid Tarkabagish was a Bangladeshi politician and Islamic scholar. His career spans from the anti-colonial independence movement to the establishment of both Pakistan and Bangladesh. Tarkabagish was the second president of the All Pakistan Awami Muslim League, and served as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan and later the Parliament of Bangladesh. Despite being a member of the treasury bench, he opposed what he considered to be the repressive mentality of the Nurul Amin government towards the Bengali Language Movement.

On 13 August 2024, he was named as one of the 7 accused in the illegal shooting and killing of various students across Dhaka during the Bangladesh Quota Reform Movement along with former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former minister Obaidul Quader, former minister Asaduzaman Khan Kamal and police officer Biplob Kumar Sarker. According to various media reports, he has either absconded or been admitted at an unknown hospital in Dhaka after being lynched by a mob due to his orders of shooting at students. He is known for his controversial actions.
New Dhaka, is an unofficial term used to describe the area located north of Old Dhaka that has been incorporated in the city of Dhaka, the capital and largest city of Bangladesh, over time. The term is ambiguous, as it may refer either to upscale and/or planned neighbourhoods with wider streets, modern buildings, and improved facilities, or to the city of Dhaka excluding the Old Dhaka region.
