Tabriz is the most populous city in northwestern Iran, one of the historical capitals of Iran and the present capital of East Azerbaijan Province. It is the fifth-most-populous city in Iran. In the Quru River valley in Iran's historic Azerbaijan region between long ridges of volcanic cones in the Sahand and Eynali mountains, Tabriz's elevation ranges between 1,350 and 1,600 metres above sea level. The valley opens up into a plain that gently slopes down to the eastern shores of Lake Urmia, 60 kilometres to the west. With cold winters and temperate summers, Tabriz is considered a summer resort. It was named World Carpet Weaving City by the World Crafts Council in October 2015 and Exemplary Tourist City of 2018 by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
Yadegar-e-Imam Stadium, also popularly known as Sahand Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Tabriz, Iran. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium was built in 1996 and has a capacity of 66,833 people. Tractor, the Persian Gulf Pro league side plays their home games at the stadium.
Ghader Mizbani Iranagh is an Iranian former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2001 and 2018 for the Telekom Malaysia Cycling Team, the Giant Asia Racing Team, Brisaspor, the Tabriz Petrochemical Team and the Tabriz Shahrdary Team. Mizbani won the overall standings of the UCI Asia Tour twice – in 2005–06 and 2008–09. Mizbani won the Iranian National Road Race Championships three times and the Iranian National Time Trial Championships twice.

The 2017–18 Azadegan League was the 27th season of the Azadegan League and 17th as the second highest division since its establishment in 1991. The season featured 13 teams from the 2016–17 Azadegan League, two new teams relegated from the 2016–17 Persian Gulf Pro League: Saba Qom and Machine Sazi and three new teams promoted from the 2016–17 League 2: Shahrdari Tabriz and Shahrdari Mahshahr both as champions and Bargh Jadid Shiraz. The league started on 7 August 2017 and ended on 29 April 2018. Naft Masjed Soleyman won the Azadegan League title for the first time in their history. Naft Masjed Soleyman and Nassaji Mazandaran promoted to the Persian Gulf Pro League.
