Sør-Frøya included the southwestern part of the island of Frøya in what is now the municipality of Frøya in Trøndelag county. The main population center of Sør-Frøya was the village of Titran on the western tip of the island. The main church for the municipality was Hallaren Church which is located in Storhallaren on the southern coast of the island.
Nord-Trøndelag County Municipality was the regional governing administration of the old Nord-Trøndelag county in Norway. The county municipality was established in its current form on 1 January 1976 when the law was changed to allow elected county councils in Norway. The county municipality was dissolved on 1 January 2018, when Nord-Trøndelag was merged with the neighboring Sør-Trøndelag county, creating the new Trøndelag county which is led by the Trøndelag County Municipality.

It consists of the municipalities of Åfjord, Frøya, Heim, Hitra, Holtålen, Indre Fosen, Malvik, Melhus, Midtre Gauldal, Oppdal, Orkland, Ørland, Osen, Rennebu, Rindal, Røros, Selbu, Skaun, Trondheim and Tydal in the county of Trøndelag. The constituency currently elects nine of the 169 members of the Storting using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 247,553 registered electors.
