Jean-Baptiste Frédéric Isidor, Baron Thielemans, known professionally as Toots Thielemans, was a Belgian jazz musician. He was mostly known for his harmonica playing, as well as his guitar, whistling skills, and composing. According to jazz historian Ted Gioia, his most important contribution was in "championing the humble harmonica", which Thielemans made into a "legitimate voice in jazz". He eventually became the "preeminent" jazz harmonica player.

A sideman is a professional musician who is hired to perform live with a solo artist, or with a group in which they are not a regular band member. The term is usually used to describe musicians that play with jazz or rock artists, whether solo or a group.

Steve Wilson is an American jazz multi-instrumentalist, who is best known in the musical community as a flutist and an alto and soprano saxophonist. He also plays the clarinet and the piccolo. Wilson performs on many different instruments and has performed and recorded on over twenty-five albums. His interests include folk, jazz, classical, world music, and experimental music. Wilson is currently on the faculty of New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts. He was elected as an American Champion by the National Flute Association. Wilson has maintained a busy career working as a session musician, and has contributed to many musicians of note both in the recording studios, but as a sideman on tours. Over the years he has participated in engagements with several musical ensembles, as well as his own solo efforts.
The Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra is a Belgian orchestra based in Brussels. The orchestra is intended as a training entity to allow young musicians opportunities to perform regularly as part of a large ensemble in preparation for their professional careers. In September 2002, Clare Roberts and Roger Bausier created the symphonic ensemble, the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra (BPhO), from scratch aiming especially on young musicians. Roberts was the manager until 2008 and Bausier headed the ensemble as the Artistic Director until he died in 2012.
The history of jazz in Belgium starts with the Dinant instrument maker Adolphe Sax, whose saxophone became part of military bands in New Orleans around 1900 and would develop into the jazz instrument par excellence. From then on the early history of jazz in Belgium virtually runs parallel to developments in the country of the birth of jazz, from the minstrel shows in the late 19th century until the first Belgian jazz album in 1927 and beyond.
While the French horn is primarily used in classical music pieces, in the mid-20th century it broke into the jazz world. While the instrument remains relatively rare, the role of the French horn in jazz has developed from its beginnings in the 1940s through to the 2010s. Note that the expression "horns" in jazz is often used colloquially to refer to all wind instruments used in jazz
Jacob "Jack" Kluger was a Belgian jazz bandleader. In the early 1930s he led a group called the Collegians, and also worked with Maurice Pinto later in the decade. He then put together his own ensemble made principally of musicians from his previous two bands, which toured throughout Europe immediately before World War II; Johnny Claes was one of his sidemen. Between 1939 and 1941 his band made several recordings which The New Grove called "some of the finest to have been made by Belgian jazz musicians." Following the war he was employed at the International Music Company as a producer, studio arranger, promoter, and publisher.
