Kunene is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia. Its capital is Opuwo, its governor is Marius Sheya. The region's name comes from the Kunene River which forms the northern border with Angola. Besides the capital Opuwo, the region contains the municipality of Outjo, the town Khorixas and the self-governed village Kamanjab. Kunene is home to the Himba people, a subtribe of the Herero. As of 2020, Kunene had 58,548 registered voters.
Elections in Namibia determine who holds public political offices in the country. Namibia is a semi-presidential representative democratic republic. It runs direct elections every five years for the position of the president and seats in the National Assembly, and every six years for the Regional Councils and the distribution of seats in local authorities. The National Council is elected indirectly by the constituency councillors of Namibia's 14 regions.
Gaob Dr. Justus ǀUruhe ǁGaroëb is the Gaob (King) of the ǂNūkhoe ǁAes as of 1977 [year of customary designation] and is the longest serving supreme traditional leader in recorded history. Historical accounts have it that most gaogu (kings) reigned for 25 years (average), whilst the nation celebrated the Sapphire Anniversary of the ǁGaroëb dynasty. He (just like most if not all pre-independence traditional leaders was active in national politics and was at the forefront of the Namibian struggle for Indendence. Gaob Dr. ǁGaroëb was a staunch opponent of South African rule and led the oppositional Namibia National Front in the late 1970s and founded the United Democratic Front in 1989.
The United Democratic Front (UDF) is a political party in Namibia. Justus ǁGaroëb founded the party in 1989 and led it until 2013. He was succeeded by Apius Auchab.
The National Council is the upper chamber of Namibia's bicameral Parliament. It reviews bills passed by the lower chamber and makes recommendations for legislation of regional concern to the lower chamber.
Henties Bay is a coastal town in the Erongo Region of western Namibia. It is located 70 km north of Swakopmund and is an important holiday settlement. 70 kilometres to the north of the town is the seal colony of Cape Cross. The town had 4,720 inhabitants in 2011, up from 3,285 in 2001. The mayor of Henties Bay is Herman /Honeb.
Usakos is a town on the banks of river Khan, 140 kilometres north-east of Swakopmund in the Erongo Region of Namibia. It is located on the B2, the main road between the Walvis Bay and Johannesburg. The town has 3,000 inhabitants and owns 58 square kilometres (22 sq mi) of land.
Parliamentary elections were held in Namibia between 7 and 11 November 1989. These elections were for the Constituent Assembly of Namibia, which, upon independence in March 1990, became the National Assembly of Namibia.
Eric Biwa is a former Namibian politician with the Patriotic Unity Movement (PUM), a party which was a member of the United Democratic Front (UDF).
Themistokles Dudu Murorua is a Namibian politician. A member of the United Democratic Front, Murorua has been the governor of Kunene Region since 2005. From 1999 to 2005, Murorua was a member of the National Council of Namibia and at the time the only UDF member of that body. He represented the Kamanjab Constituency. For the 2019 parliamentary election Murorua was placed second on UDF's party list. As the party gained two seats in that election he joined the National Assembly of Namibia in March 2020.
Michael Bantu Goreseb is a Namibian politician. A member of the United Democratic Front, Goreseb has been a member of the National Assembly of Namibia since the 2004 parliamentary election as well as member of the UDF's Central Committee during the same time. In the National Assembly, the Erongo Region native has been a member of the Standing Committee on Economics, Natural Resources and Public Administration, as well as the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social and Community Development. Prior to entering national politics, Goreseb was mayor and town councillor of Usakos, Erongo from 1998 to 2003. In 1994, Goreseb earned a Diploma in Education from Windhoek College of Education.

Sesfontein Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Kunene Region of Namibia. Its district capital is the settlement of Sesfontein. The constituency had a population of 7,358 in 2004. As of 2020, it has 5,614 registered voters.
The Workers Revolutionary Party is a communist party in Namibia led by Attie Beukes and Harry Boesak.
The Damara Council was a political party in Damaraland, a Bantustan in South West Africa. In 1977 a breakaway faction joined the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA), while in 1989, the remainder of the DC was one of 8 political parties which formed the United Democratic Front. 6 of the 8 parties were ethnically affiliated, as they had taken part in the governments of various Bantustans. Since 1989, the UDF has maintained a presence in the National Assembly of Namibia, with Damara-speaking Namibians forming the core of the party.
Reggie Diergaardt is a Namibian politician and former member of the National Assembly of Namibia.
Auguste Xoagus is a Namibian politician. A member of SWAPO, Xoagus was a regional councilor for his party in the northwestern Kunene Region prior to his election to the 5th National Assembly of Namibia in 2009.
General elections were held in Namibia on 27 November 2019. Ballots were cast using electronic voting. A total of eleven candidates ran for the presidency and fifteen political parties contested the National Assembly elections.
Apius Auchab is a Namibian politician who has served as the president of the United Democratic Front since 2013. He has been a Member of the National Assembly since 2015. He was previously the party's vice president from 2009 until 2013. Auchab was also the regional councillor for the Dâures Constituency in the Erongo Region until his defeat in 2010.
