Gustav Franke (born 4 December 1937 in Grottkau, Germany), is a former German International motorcycle trials rider. Franke was FIM Trial Challenge Henry Groutars Champion in 1965 and 1966.

Biography

Franke was the top trials rider in Germany throughout most of the 1960s. He won his first national title in 1962 and defended it in 1963.

Franke competed in the inaugural Challenge Henry Groutars Championship in 1964 finishing runner up to British Greeves rider Don Smith.^[1] Franke had won the opening round in Belgium but the French and German rounds went Smith, and with them the title.^[2] On the national scene Franke was once again German Trials Champion.

In 1965 Franke won the championship ahead of fellow Zündapp rider Andreas Brandl. He retained the title in 1966, this time holding off Don Smith. He won the German national title both years.^[3]

The pair resumed their rivalry in 1967, this time with Smith taking the win ahead of Franke by 10 points.

The Challenge Henry Groutars was renamed the European Championship for the 1968 season, and with it came a new winner. Irishman Sammy Miller took his Bultaco to victory with Franke finishing a strong second place.^[4]^[5] Franke competed in the European championships until his final international year in 1971.^[3]

Franke added the 1967, 1968 and 1969 German Trials Championships to his tally before his 8-year run was ended in 1970 by Ludwig Terne, although Franke did add one final title to his name by winning once again in 1971.

Mick Andrews, is an English former international motorcycle trials rider. He was FIM European Trials Champion in 1971 and 1972 and is a five times winner of the Scottish Six Days Trial, taking the laurels in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974 and 1975, equalling the record set by Sammy Miller. In 2015, Andrews was named an FIM Legend for his motorcycling achievements.

Bernard Schreiber, is an American former international motorcycle trials rider. He became the only American to win the FIM Trial World Championship in 1979. Schreiber is also four-time winner of the NATC Trials Championship, winning the title in 1978, 1982, 1983 and 1987. In 2000 he was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame and, in 2020 he was named an FIM Legend.

The FIM Trials European Championship is organised by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme and has been held since 1992. The championship gives up and coming riders a chance to compete at international level against top class riders, many who have progressed to become champions in the FIM Trial World Championship such as current champion Toni Bou and past champions Dougie Lampkin and Adam Raga

Emma Elizabeth Fry is a British professional motorcycle trials rider and nine-times Women’s World Championship rider in World Trials. In 2014, Bristow became the first British rider to win the Women's FIM Trial World Championship. She also has two FIM SuperEnduro World Championships, a two-time European champion in the Women's FIM Trial European Championship in 2013 and 2017 and ten British women's titles.

The North American Trials Council Championship is the official US National Trials Championship and has been held since 1974.

Albert Cabestany, is an International motorcycle trials rider. He was Spanish Outdoor Trials Champion in 2002, and Indoor Champion in 2002, 2003 and 2006.

Rebekah Cook Talbot is an English woman's international motorcycle trials rider. Rebekah is nine times British Women's Trials Champion, winning in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. In 2012, she was also European Women's Trials Champion.

Ina Wilde, is a German woman's international motorcycle trials rider. Ina is four times German Women's Trials Champion, winning in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014. In 2014, she also won the European Women's Championship.

Iris Kramer is a German International motorcycle trials rider. Kramer is notable for winning six German Women's Trials Championships, three Women's FIM Trial European Championships and the 2007 Women's FIM Trial World Championship. In 2011, Kramer was named an FIM Legend for her motorcycling achievements.

Patrick Smage, is an International motorcycle trials rider. Smage is eleven times United States NATC Trials Champion and is the current champion. Patrick rides with his brother Phil Smage on the Smage Brothers Riding Shows. They competed on the sixth season of America's Got Talent in the middle of 2011 and made the finals finishing in the Top 10.

Logan Bolopue, is a National motorcycle trials rider. Bolopue won the American NATC Expert National Championship and currently rides in the NATC Pro Class for Sherco.

Don Smith, was a British International motorcycle trials rider. He was born in East London. Smith was the first FIM Trials World Champion in 1964 when the championship was known by its original title of Challenge Henry Groutars. Smith again won the title in 1967, before winning a final time in 1969. He died in Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge on 6 October 2004 at the age of 66.

Sara Trentini, is an Italian Women's International motorcycle trials rider. Trentini is a 5 times Italian Women's Trials Champion, winning the National title in 2010 thru 2012, and again in 2016 and 2017.

Theresa Bäuml is a German Women's International motorcycle trials rider. She was the 2015 German Women's and FIM European Women's Trials Champion. In 2016 Bäuml retained her European title.

Sandra Gómez Cantero, is a Spanish Women's International motorcycle trials rider. Gomez has twice been Spanish Women's Trials Champion and a member of the Spanish Trial Des Nations winning team on five occasions, including 2017.

Siri Minken, is a former Norwegian women's International motorcycle trials rider. Minken was Norwegian Women's Trials Champion in 2001 and also a member of the Norwegian Women's Team which won the 2001 Trial des Nations event.

Yrjö Vesterinen is a Finnish former International motorcycle trials World Champion. Vesterinen won the FIM World Trials Championship three times from 1976 through 1978. He was also eleven times Finnish National champion between 1970 and 1980, and British National champion in 1982.
