Maurice Jean Marie Burrus was an Alsatian tobacco magnate, politician and philatelist. Originally from Alsace but residing in Switzerland, he was a deputy in the French parliament during the 1930s. Baron Axel de Reuterskiöld, known as de Reuter to his friends, was a Swedish philatelist who signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1921. He was an expert in the stamps of Switzerland. Together with the French banker and philatelist Paul Mirabaud he wrote the standard reference work: "Les Timbres Postes de la Suisse 1843-1860" which was published in 1899. The book is considered very well researched and the first published deep study of Swiss philately. In some fields the book is still considered a standard reference and has been the basis for many more modern or more particular enquiries into the field of the Swiss classical issues.

Dr. Jacques Fromaigeat was a French philatelist who signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1974.

Guy de Fayolle French philatelist

Marquis Guy de Fayolle was a French philatelist who was added to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1939. In 1913 he won a gold medal at the Exposition Philatelique Internationale in Paris for his display of the stamps of Greece. His collection of the classic stamps of Mexico was sold by Harmers in 1956.

Major the Chevalier Etienne Corbisier de Meaultsart was a Belgian philatelist who was added to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1949.

Alexander Argyropoulos Greek agricultural engineer and philatelist (1883-1962)

Alexander G. Argyropoulos (1883–1962) was born in London the son of the Greek ambassador to the United Kingdom. He trained as an agricultural engineer. In his spare time he was a noted philatelist.

Jules E.H.P.J. Crustin was a Belgian philatelist who was added to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1972. He was a specialist in the philately of Luxembourg.

COVID-19 pandemic in France Ongoing COVID-19 viral pandemic in France

The COVID-19 pandemic appeared to have reached France on 24 January 2020, when the first COVID-19 case in both Europe and France was confirmed in Bordeaux. The first five confirmed cases were all individuals who had recently arrived or returned from China. A Chinese tourist who was admitted to hospital in Paris on 28 January died on 14 February, making it the first Covid-19 death in France. A key event in the spread of the disease across Metropolitan France as well as its overseas territories was the annual assembly of the Christian Open Door Church between 17 and 24 February in Mulhouse which was attended by about 2,500 people, at least half of whom are believed to have contracted the virus. On 4 May, retroactive testing of samples in one French hospital showed a patient had been infected on 27 December, almost a month before the first officially confirmed cases.
