The Guy and Margaret Fleming House, also known as Torrey Pines Reserve Ranger Residence, [1] is a historic house in the Torrey Pines State Reserve, California. [2] It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in June 1998.

The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical significance. A property listed in the National Register, or located within a National Register Historic District, may qualify for tax incentives derived from the total value of expenses incurred preserving the property.

Guy Fleming was a naturalist and the park custodian of Torrey Pines Reserve. [3] He served as a guide during the Panama-California Exposition of 1915-16 [2] and was noted for his conservation efforts throughout California, in particular his work founding the Anza Desert, Cuyamaca, and Palomar State Parks. [4]

Guy L. Fleming was an American naturalist whose conservation work led to the founding of Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, now a 2000-acre protected coastal area of La Jolla, San Diego. The Torrey pine, Pinus torreyana, is the rarest pine species in the United States.

Margaret Eddy Fleming (1888-1977) was a landscape artist and naturalist. The Margaret Fleming Nature Trail in the Torrey Pines Reserve Extension Area was named in her honor. [5]

The two-story wood-framed home was built in 1927 by Fleming and his father in the Pueblo Revival style. [3]

The Pueblo Revival style or Santa Fe style is a regional architectural style of the Southwestern United States, which draws its inspiration from the Pueblos and the Spanish missions in New Mexico. The style developed at the beginning of the 20th century and reached its greatest popularity in the 1920s and 1930s, though it is still commonly used for new buildings. Pueblo style architecture is most prevalent in the state of New Mexico.

Blacks Beach beach

Black's Beach is a secluded section of beach beneath the bluffs of Torrey Pines on the Pacific Ocean in La Jolla, San Diego, California, United States. It is officially part of Torrey Pines State Beach. The northern portion of Black's Beach is owned and managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, while the southern portion of the beach, officially known as Torrey Pines City Beach, is jointly owned by the city of San Diego and the state park, but is managed by the city of San Diego. This distinction is important as Black’s Beach is most known as a nude beach, a practice that is no longer permitted in the southern portion managed by the city of San Diego.

Richard Smith Requa was an American architect, largely known for his work in San Diego, California. Requa was the Master Architect for the California Pacific International Exposition held in Balboa Park in 1935-36. He improved and extended many of the already existing buildings from an earlier exposition, as well as creating new facilities including the Old Globe Theater.
