The eight competitors (with a maximum of two per nation) with the highest scores in qualifying proceeded to the women's balance beam finals. There, each gymnast performed again; the scores from the final round (ignoring qualification) determined final ranking.

Ksenia Afanasyeva gymnast

Widely regarded as one of the most original and artistic gymnasts of all time, she retired from elite gymnastics in July 2016 due to kidney disease, a month away from the 2016 Summer Olympics, for which she was the Russian team's first alternate.

These are the results of the women's balance beam competition, one of six events for female competitors in artistic gymnastics at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. The qualification and final rounds took place on September 19th, 21st and 25th at the Olympic Gymnastics Hall.

2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships

The 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held in Tokyo, Japan, from October 7–16, 2011, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. Due to uncertainty over the nuclear situation following the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, the International Federation of Gymnastics revealed it was considering moving the event, but on May 22 FIG president Bruno Grandi announced that the World Championships would take place in Tokyo as planned.

The women's artistic individual all-around competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London was held at the North Greenwich Arena on 2 August.

Ruby Harrold is a British artistic gymnast who was a member of the British Olympic team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Harrold was also a reserve athlete for the 2012 Summer Olympics team. Harrold was also a member of the British team that won a bronze medal in the team final at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Following her international retirement after the 2016 Summer Olympics, Harrold became a member of the LSU Tigers gymnastics team, having received a full athletic scholarship to attend Louisiana State University, beginning Fall of 2016.

The results of the qualification determined the qualifiers to the finals: 8 teams in the team final, 24 gymnasts in the all-around final, and 8 gymnasts in each of 4 apparatus finals. Simone Arianne Biles is an American artistic gymnast. Biles is the 2016 Olympic individual all-around, vault and floor gold medalist, and balance beam bronze medalist. She was part of the gold-medal-winning team dubbed the "Final Five" at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Angelina Melnikova Russian artistic gymnast

Angelina Romanovna Melnikova is a Russian artistic gymnast. She represented Russia at the 2016 Summer Olympics, winning a silver medal in the team competition. She was also a member of the gold-medal-winning Russian teams at the 2016 and 2018 European Championships, and the silver-medal-winning Russian teams at the 2018 and 2019 World Championships.

Andreea Munteanu Romanian artistic gymnast

Andreea Eugenia Munteanu is a Romanian artistic gymnast. She is a two-time European champion, with a team title in 2014 and a beam gold in 2015.

Sanne Wevers Dutch artistic gymnast

Sanne Wevers is a Dutch artistic gymnast. She has competed internationally as a senior since 2007, primarily as a balance beam and uneven bars specialist. Wevers is the 2016 Olympic and 2018 European champion on balance beam and was the first Dutch female gymnast to become an individual Olympic champion. She is also the 2015 World silver medalist on balance beam and the 2015 European bronze medalist on uneven bars.

The women's artistic individual all-around competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was held at the Arena Olímpica do Rio on 11 August.

Fan Yilin artistic gymnast

Fan Yilin is a Chinese artistic gymnast. She is a two-time world champion on the uneven bars. She represented China at the 2016 Summer Olympics and won a bronze medal in the team competition. At the 2015 World Championships, she was in the first ever four-way tie along with Viktoria Komova, Daria Spiridonova, and Madison Kocian.

Nina Derwael is a Belgian artistic gymnast and Olympian. She is the 2018 and 2019 World champion and a two-time European champion on the uneven bars as well as a two-time Belgian national all-around champion. She is the first Belgian gymnast to become a world champion.

Final Five (gymnastics) 2016 US Olympic gymnastics team

The Final Five was the United States women's team in artistic gymnastics that won the team event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. It was the United States' third gold medal in the event and second outside the United States. The five members of the team were Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian, and Aly Raisman. After the team event, Biles won a gold medal in the individual all-around event, the vault, and on floor exercise and won a bronze on the balance beam; Raisman, the team captain, won silver in the individual all around and on floor exercise; Kocian won silver on the uneven bars; Hernandez won silver on the balance beam. The previous team to medal in every event, including the team and individual all-around, was the Unified Team at the 1992 Games; the only previous U.S. team to do so was at the boycott-reduced 1984 Games.

Sunisa Lee is an American artistic gymnast and part of the United States women's national gymnastics team. She was a member of the team that won gold at the 2019 World Championships. She won four medals at the USA Gymnastics National Championships during her first year as a senior elite gymnast.
