The Haartman Hospital (Finnish: Haartmanin sairaala) is a hospital at the Meilahti Tower Hospital area in Meilahti, Helsinki, Finland. The hospital started operating in autumn 2009. [1] The hospital was named after the physician Johan Haartman, who founded the first hospital in Finland in Turku in 1799 and is considered the father of Finnish medicine. [2]
The building was designed by the Finnish architecture bureau Virta-Palaste-Leinonen Arkkitehdit. The facades are made of screen printed glass with a blue pattern designed by the artist Markku Keränen (born 1945) in the background. The light chasms on the third floor bear sculptures by the Finnish artist Kirsi Kaulanen (born 1969). The light chasms bring light into the central patient spaces and also work as vehicles for smoke removal. The second floor, serving as the entrance floor, holds a patient registering space completely made of glass and completely insulated for sound, the first one in Finland and one of the few in the entire world at the time of construction. The Meilahti common emergency duty department moved to the Siltasairaala ("Bridge Hospital") hospital on 8 January 2024, with an entrance on Paciuksenkatu 3. The department handles sudden diseases and injuries for people over 16 years of age as well as mental health problems requiring urgent care. [5]

The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center is a United States Department of Defense medical facility at Fort Cavazos, Texas. It provides medical care to servicemembers and their families, along with veterans and their dependents, in and around the largest U.S. military installation in the world. Named after inventor of water chlorination Brigadier General Carl Rogers Darnall, MD., the core of the medical center is a state of the art 947,000-square-foot hospital. The facility opened in 2016, and includes a full primary care and emergency medical facility, including a level III trauma center, and specialized care in obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopedics, and behavioral health. The hospital provides treatment to nearly 3,000 patients daily. The medical center is one of the largest in the Military Health System, comprising more than 105 buildings in addition to the main facility, spread over Fort Cavazos, three local communities, and a clinic at the Red River Army Depot in Bowie County, Texas, outside of Texarkana. The medical center and its outlying facilities are staffed nearly entirely by uniformed servicemembers of the U.S. Army, however in 2019, the administrative control of the facility was shifted from United States Army Medical Command to the Defense Health Agency, an integrated joint Department of Defense combat support agency. All patients of the facility are insured and billed through Tricare, the health insurance system of the DoD. The medical center is led by Colonel Richard G. Malish.

The Maria Hospital was founded in Helsinki, Finland in the 19th century as a Russian military hospital. Since independence of Finland, the hospital has functioned as a hospital both of the City of Helsinki and of the hospital district of Helsinki and Uusimaa. Hospital functionalities in the Maria Hospital were discontinued in 2014. The Maria hospital has had long and close connections to the history of Finnish independence. The hospital was named after the wife of Emperor Alexander III of Russia, Maria Feodorovna. The hospital has included units for orthopedics and traumatology, urology, general and gastric surgery and a policlinic. The hospital performed surgery and even in the early 2000s performed artificial joint surgery, back surgery, trauma surgery and complicated gastric and general surgery and urology. In 2007, the hospital moved from the hospital district of Helsinki and Uusimaa mostly to the City of Helsinki, and only dialysis was performed under the central hospital of the hospital district. In its final phases, the hospital also included bed places.
The Töölö Hospital was a hospital in Taka-Töölö, Helsinki, Finland, belonging to the Helsinki University Central Hospital. It had special departments for plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery and traumatology, hand surgery and neurosurgery. The hospital had a 24-hour policlinic receiving trauma patients from the Helsinki capital area and occasionally from the entire region of Southern Finland. Patients usually arrived at the policlinic on a medical note. The policlinic treated about 18 thousand patients per year. The hospital also hosted the cleft lip and cleft palate centre HUSUKE, containing research and care for cleft lips and cleft palates as well as the department for care of mouth and jaw diseases. The Töölö Hospital also had its own X-ray facility and laboratory.

The hospital was built in 1888 and represents neoclassical architecture typical of the late 19th century. The hospital is part of the Helsinki University Central Hospital.
