Hadiza Nuhu OON (born 23 August 1965) is a senior lecturer in the Department of Pharmacognosy and Drug Development at Ahmadu Bello University. She is also an herbal medicine practitioner. [1] Nuhu is an associate professor of pharmacy.

Early life and education

Born in Kano State on 23 August 1965. She holds a PhD in pharmacognosy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a certificate in information technology from Newcastle College, UK. [2]

HERB 25

In 2009, her 12 years of research produced Herb 25, an antimalarial medication which she describes as an enhanced ethnomedical preparation from a screened combination of herbs that have been used in Nigeria traditionally to treat malaria. [3] Herb 25 is an anti-malaria drug to treat Chloroquine-resistant malaria and is registered by NAFDAC. It dispensed in tea bags. It will be the first time a University in Nigeria will successfully produce such a drug. [4]

Barewa College is a college in Zaria, Kaduna State, northern Nigeria. Founded in 1921 by British Governor General Hugh Clifford, it was originally known as Katsina College. It switched its name to Kaduna College in 1938 and to Government College, Zaria in 1949 before settling on Barewa College. It is one of the largest boarding schools in Northern Nigeria and was the most-celebrated post-primary schools there up to the early 1960s. The 2023 Kano State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Kano State, concurrent with elections to the Kano State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections.
