The Australia women's national soccer team has represented Australia at the FIFA Women's World Cup on eight occasions in 1995, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023. Australia is co-hosting the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup with New Zealand. The Matildas automatically qualified as co-host. The team also participated in the 1988 FIFA Women's Invitation Tournament, a precursor to the Women's World Cup.

The group consisted of hosts Australia, the Republic of Ireland, Nigeria and Canada. The top two teams, Australia and Nigeria, advanced to the round of 16. Canada became the first reigning Olympic champions to be eliminated in the subsequent Women's World Cup group stage. A win against Canada made Australia avoided their first group stage elimination since 2003 and following fellow hosts New Zealand, assuring all nine Women's World Cup up to 2023 had a host country participating in the knockouts. Nigeria progressed to the knockout stage for only the third time in their ninth Women's World Cup.

Denmark managed to qualify for the Women's World Cup knockout stage for the first time since 1995, where both them and England were eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Group H of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup was one of eight groups that form the opening round of the tournament with the matches played from 24 July to 3 August 2023. The group consists of Germany, Morocco, Colombia and South Korea. The top two teams, Colombia and Morocco, advanced to the round of 16. Germany was eliminated in the Women's World Cup group stage for the first time ever, while Morocco advanced to the knockouts in their first Women's World Cup campaign. Colombia advanced to the round of 16 for only second time in their third Women's World Cup; the previous was in 2015, which was also the year South Korea progressed from the group for the only time as of 2023.
The Morocco women's national football team has qualified to the FIFA Women's World Cup in one occasion, the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup which will also be the country's debut. Morocco is also the first country from the Arab world to do so since the inception of the FIFA Women's World Cup in 1991.
