Haley Hannah Heynderickx (born May 28, 1993) [1] is an American singer-songwriter from Portland, Oregon. In 2016, she released her debut EP, Fish Eyes. Her first full-length album, I Need to Start a Garden , was released in March 2018 on Mama Bird Recording Co. Seed of a Seed , her second album, was released in November 2024 on the same label.

Early life

Heynderickx was born in Stockton, California to a Filipino-American family and grew up in Forest Grove, Oregon, where she learned to sing in church. She graduated from Portland State University. [2]

Career

She released her debut EP, Fish Eyes, in 2016. In March 2018, she released her first album, I Need to Start a Garden , on Mama Bird Recording Co. The album received positive reviews, including a 7.3 rating from Pitchfork , [3] while NPR Music wrote that the album "captivates" [4] and Uproxx called it "an utterly brilliant folk debut". [5] In January 2018, she was named an "Artist to Watch" by Stereogum . [6]

In fall 2023 she was an opening act for Tim Baker for several shows in his Canadian tour. [7]

Style

Heynderickx's music features a fingerstyle acoustic guitar technique inspired by Leo Kottke and John Fahey [8] paired with introspective lyrics punctuated with "well-timed levity". [3]

Marisa Anderson is an American guitarist and composer based in Portland, Oregon. She is primarily known for mixing American primitive guitar with various genres from throughout the United States and the rest of the world, and for her largely improvised compositions. Though primarily known for playing acoustic and electric guitars, she has also played keyboards and other instruments on her albums. Anderson grew up in Sonoma, California, and after dropping out of college, travelled around the United States and Mexico for several years before settling in Portland.
