Hambantota Sharks Sports Club was a former Division 'A' rugby union team based in Sri Lanka, that competed in the Dialog Rugby League.

The Hambantota Sharks Sports Club was launched on 15 May 2013 at Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo. [2] The President of the club is Johan Fernado, whilst the coach was announced as Nihal Gunaratne. [3] K. D. U. Adventures (Pvt Ltd) are the major sponsor of the club, with their home games to be played at Beliatta National Stadium.

The Hambantota Sharks first official scheduled game in the Dialog Rugby League was to occur at Havelock Park, against the league titleholders, Havelock Sports Club [4] however it was abandoned due to a power failure at the grounds. [5] Their debut match was held on 24 November 2013 against Air Force SC at the newly constructed Beliatta National Stadium. The game ended in a 13-13 draw. [6] In December 2013 Nilfer Ibrahim took over as the coach of the club. [7] The Hambantota Sharks finished the 2013/14 season in ninth place with a 1 win, ten loss record, having beaten only Colombo H & FC and drawing with Air Force SC. [8] [9]

On the 28 January 2015 the Sharks announced that they were withdrawing from the 2014/15 Dialog Rugby League, midway through the season, due to concerns over players injuries. [10] [11] They became the second team to withdraw from Division 'A' competition, following a similar decision by the Colombo Hockey and Football Club, reducing the league down to a seven team contest. [12] In the 2014/15 season the Sharks competed in eight matches, losing six and winning two. The team's coach, Nilfer Ibrahim, stated "that the team will be coming back to the competition next season." [13] The club then released its contracted player to play for other league teams. [10] Ibrahim was subsequently appointed as the coach of Isipathana College and the coach of the national under-19 rugby union team. [14]

Sri Lanka Army Sports Club is a Division 'A' rugby union team based in Sri Lanka that plays in the Dialog Rugby League in Sri Lanka. It is the rugby union team of the Sri Lanka Army Sports Club and was founded in 1963.

Subasinghe Mudiyanselage Ashan Priyanjan is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the national side in limited over formats. He is a middle-order batsman and occasionally a right-arm off break bowler.

The Serendib International Cup was an international rugby union competition for emerging nations held in Sri Lanka in 2013. The Serendib Cup was contested by the hosts Sri Lanka and the Malagasy and Polish national rugby teams. The tournament was backed by the International Rugby Board and was played over three match days in Colombo between 26 October and 1 November, coinciding with the 2013 end-of-year rugby union tests.

The Sri Lanka Rugby Championship, known as the Nippon Paint Inter-Club Rugby League for sponsorship reasons, is the major national rugby union club competition, held between the top Division 'A' rugby sides, in Sri Lanka. The annual home and away competition, featuring eight Division 'A' teams, has been held since 1950. The competition has been held between November and February for the last three seasons. The first round of the tournament runs for seven weekends with the final match of the first round in early January, no games are played over the Christmas holiday period. The second round also runs for seven weekends, with the final match in the beginning of March.

The Clifford Cup is the most prestigious club rugby knockout tournament in Sri Lanka, and arguably the oldest rugby tournament in Asia. The Clifford Cup commenced in 1911 and has been played continuously since 1950, having completed 79 seasons. The tournament began as a competition between the mercantile executives in Colombo and planters in the hill country.

The 78th Clifford Cup tournament was held between the 28 September and 7 October 2012.

Lieutenant Commander Yoshitha Rajapaksa is a Sri Lankan sportsman and former naval officer. He is the son of the sixth president of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa and served as the Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

Lasith Embuldeniya is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays Test match cricket for Sri Lanka. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in February 2019, and plays for Nondescripts Cricket Club in domestic cricket.

The 83rd Clifford Cup tournament was held between the 16 and 25 February 2018. The 2018 Clifford Cup took place after the conclusion of the regular season, with teams seeded based on their performance in the 2017-18 Dialog Rugby League season.

The 2018–19 Sri Lanka Champions League, known as the 2018–19 Dialog Champions League due to sponsorship reasons, was the 34th season of the Sri Lanka Champions League, the top-tier football league in Sri Lanka. The season started on 21 October 2018, rather than original scheduled date of June, due to the 2018 SAFF Championship, and ended on 24 February 2019.

Kavindu Nadeeshan is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He made his first-class debut on 21 February 2020, for Colombo Cricket Club in the 2019–20 Premier League Tournament. The 84th Clifford Cup tournament was held between the 15 and 24 March 2019. The 2019 Clifford Cup took place after the conclusion of the regular season, with teams seeded based on their performance in the 2018-19 Dialog Rugby League season. The eventual winner was Havelock Sports Club, who last won the cup in 1981, thirty seven years ago.

Radhika Hettiarachchi is a Sri Lankan rugby union player and coach. He captained both Sri Lanka national rugby union team and Sri Lanka national rugby sevens team. He is regarded as one of the finest rugby sevens players to have emerged from Sri Lanka and he is also nicknamed as Iron Man of Sri Lanka Rugby.
