The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) is the governing body of handball and beach handball in Asia. It has 44 member countries, mostly located on the Asian continent, but excludes the transcontinental countries with territory in both Europe and Asia – Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russian Federation and Turkey – which are instead members of European Handball Federation (EHF). Three other states located along the western fringe of Asia – Cyprus, Armenia and Israel – are also EHF members. Hong Kong and Macau, although not independent countries, are also members of the AHF.
Water polo was contested by men's teams at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea from September 30 to October 6, 2002. Six teams competed in two round robin groups. All games were staged at the Changwon Swimming Pool.

For the first time, Australia, New Zealand and Bangladesh participated.
The 2018 Asian Men's Junior Handball Championship will be the 16th edition of the championship scheduled to be held from 16 to 26 July 2018 at Salalah, Oman under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation. It will be the first time in history that championship will be organised in Oman by the Oman Handball Association. It also acts as the qualification tournament for the 2019 Men's Junior World Handball Championship. Top three teams from the championship will directly qualify for the Junior World Championship to be held in Spain.

The tournament was held under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation and acted as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2019 World Women's Handball Championship.
The 2019 Asian Women's Junior Handball Championship was the 15th edition of the championship held from 20 to 29 July 2019 at Beirut, Lebanon under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation. It was the first time in history that championship was organised in Lebanon by the Lebanese Handball Federation. It also acted as the qualification tournament for the 2020 Women's Junior World Handball Championship.

It also acted as the qualification tournament for the 2021 IHF Men's Super Globe, with top team from the championship directly qualifying for the event to be held also in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Al-Duhail SC won the final 27–24 against Al-Kuwait SC for their second Asian Club League title.
