A triathlon is an endurance multisport race consisting of swimming, cycling, and running over various distances. Triathletes compete for fastest overall completion time, racing each segment sequentially with the time transitioning between the disciplines included. The word is of Greek origin, from τρεῖς, 'three', and ἆθλος, 'competition'.
Duathlon is an athletic event that consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg in a format similar to triathlons. The World Triathlon governs the sport internationally.
Mari Kim Holden is an American Olympic medalist and World Champion in the sport of cycling. She won a silver medal in the 2000 Olympic Games time trial in Sydney, Australia and the world time trial championship later that year. She also won six U.S. championships, becoming the first American woman to win three consecutive U.S. time trial championships (1998–2000) and scoring a double by winning the U.S. time trial and road championships in 1999. Udo Hempel is a retired road and track cyclist from West Germany, who won the gold medal in the Men's 4.000 Team Pursuit at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, alongside Günther Schumacher, Jürgen Colombo, and Günter Haritz. In the 1968 Summer Olympics, he had already won silver in the same event. He was a professional cyclist from 1973 to 1983, whose best results were on the track.
Karin Thürig is a Swiss professional racing cyclist and triathlete. She is the winner of the 2004 and 2005 UCI Road World Championships – Women's time trial. In 2011, she took second at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
Emma Jane Pooley is a British-Swiss athlete in multiple sports. Kate McIlroy is a New Zealand cyclist, triathlete and former runner. She won the World Mountain Running title in 2005 and was later named New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year at the Halberg Awards.
Nicky Samuels is a New Zealand professional triathlete who has won the 2013 XTERRA Triathlon World Championship and the 2012 ITU Aquathlon World Championships. She is also the 2012 New Zealand cycling road race national champion. She represented—alongside Andrea Hewitt—New Zealand at the 2016 Summer Olympics in triathlon and came 13th.
Cameron Wurf is an Australian professional triathlete and road cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam Ineos Grenadiers. He was a national champion and Australian representative rower – a 2004 Olympian who won a World Rowing U23 Championships title in 2003.
The World Triathlon Championship Series is an annual series of triathlon events organised by World Triathlon. The series is used to crown an annual world champion since 2008. Previously, the ITU world champion between 1989 and 2008 had been decided in a single annual championship race.

Kaat Hannes is a Belgian former road cyclist, who rode professionally between 2011 and 2017, and also in 2020, for the Lotto–Belisol Ladies, Topsport Vlaanderen–Pro-Duo, Lensworld–Kuota and Doltcini–Van Eyck–Proximus teams. She participated at the 2012 UCI Road World Championships.
Anna Turvey is a racing cyclist competing for Ireland. She holds the Irish National records for the 10 miles, 25 miles and 50 miles individual time trials.
The 2018 European Championships were the first edition of the European Championships. It was a multi-sport event which took place in Berlin, Germany, and Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom from 2 to 12 August 2018. Around 1,500 athletes competed at the European Athletics Championships in Berlin, whilst at the same time more than 3,000 took part in the other championships in Glasgow. Each European Championship was organised by the respective federation and host city.
Hana Kolářová is a Czech professional triathlete. She is awarded as a junior national champion in 2007 and the Czech Triathlon Series winner in 2012. She lives in the United Kingdom.

The 2022 European Championships were the second edition of the European Championships. It was a multi-sport event which took place in Munich, Germany from 11 to 21 August 2022. The event started three days after the closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, Great Britain.
