Hans Silfverberg (b. 1943) is a Finnish entomologist from the Finnish Museum of Natural History. [1] The beetle species Apion silfverbergi , [2] Hyperaspis silfverbergi , [3] and Sasajiscymnus silfverbergi are named in his honour. [4]
He has described the following taxa, among others:
Among his scientific contributions is a list of the Coleoptera present in the Baltic and Nordic countries, which he published in 1992. [8]
Macroplea is a genus of beetle of the subfamily Donaciinae in the family of leaf beetles.
Colasposoma is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It is known from Africa, Asia and Australia.
Phratora vitellinae, the brassy leaf beetle, formerly Phyllodecta vitellinae, is a beetle of the family Chrysomelidae found in Europe and Asia. It feeds on Populus and Salix species. The evolution of its host plant preferences and the mechanism by which it uses host plant chemicals to make a larval defensive secretion have been the subject of intense study by research groups in Europe and the Nordic countries.
Acidocerinae is a subfamily in the family Hydrophilidae of aquatic beetles, and it contains over 500 species in 23 genera.
Macrocoma splendidula is a species of leaf beetle endemic to the Canary Islands, described by Thomas Vernon Wollaston in 1862.
Carl August Lundström (1844–1914) was a Finnish entomologist who specialised in Diptera especially Nematocera. He was a Professor in Helsinki. His insect collection is held by the Finnish Museum of Natural History.
Macrocoma is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It contains about 100 species, which are found in tropical Africa, around the Mediterranean, on the Canary Islands, in western and central Asia, and in India.
Syagrus is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. They are known from the mainland of Africa. They are often attracted by plants in the family Malvaceae; Syagrus rugifrons and Syagrus calcaratus are pests of cotton. The larvae of Syagrus calcaratus attack the roots of the plant and cause it to wilt.
Phratora laticollis is a species of leaf beetle found in Europe and Asia. This beetle is found on Populus species and the chemistry and production of its larval defensive secretions and host plant relationships have been studied extensively.
Afroeurydemus is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae, found in Africa. The genus was separated from Eurydemus in 1965 by Brian J. Selman, who moved all African species of Eurydemus he had seen to this genus or related African genera and considered it likely that Eurydemus was restricted to Fiji. Many species were also originally placed in Syagrus.
Scymninae is a subfamily of beetles in the family Coccinellidae. There are at least 170 described species in Scymninae.
Eumolpini is a tribe of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It is the largest tribe in the subfamily, with approximately 170 genera found worldwide. Members of the tribe almost always have a longitudinal median groove on the pygidium, which possibly helps to keep the elytra locked at rest. They also generally have a subglabrous body, as well as appendiculate pretarsal claws.
Dermoxanthus is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It is distributed in Africa.
Basilepta is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It is generally distributed in Asia. A single species is also known from central Africa.
P. S. Nathan, P. Susai Nathan or P. Susainathan was an Indian naturalist, entomologist and a natural history specimen collector and dealer. His natural history business was continued by his daughter-in-law Theresa Rajabai Susai Nathan and still later by her daughter-in-law Nellie J.P. Nathan. A number of species are named after the collections made by him and his family.
Podontia is a genus of flea beetles in the family Chrysomelidae. They belong in the Blepharida-group of flea beetles.
Phratora tibialis is a species of leaf beetle found in Europe and parts of Asia. This beetle is found on willows and the chemistry and production of its larval defensive secretions and host plant relationships have been studied extensively.
Phratora polaris is a species of leaf beetle found in the Nordic regions of Europe., occasionally in Scotland, and Iceland. Some authors have recorded it in central Europe, especially in the Alps. Historically, this species has occurred in Greenland. This beetle is found on willow (Salix) species in the southern part of its range. Populations in Lapland feed on birch.
