Hapoel Ashkelon (Hebrew : הפועל אשקלון) was an Israeli women's football club from Ashkelon, who competed in the Israeli Women's Football League and the Israeli Women's Cup.

Hebrew is a Northwest Semitic language native to Israel; the modern version of which is spoken by over 9 million people worldwide. Historically, it is regarded as the language of the Israelites and their ancestors, although the language was not referred to by the name Hebrew in the Tanakh. Ashkelon Place in Israel

Ashkelon or Ashqelon, also known as Ascalon, is a coastal city in the Southern District of Israel on the Mediterranean coast, 50 kilometres (31 mi) south of Tel Aviv, and 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) north of the border with the Gaza Strip. The ancient seaport of Ashkelon dates back to the Neolithic Age. In the course of its history, it has been ruled by the Ancient Egyptians, the Canaanites, the Philistines, the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Greeks, the Phoenicians, the Hasmoneans, the Romans, the Persians, the Arabs and the Crusaders, until it was destroyed by the Mamluks in 1270.

History

The club was among the first established in Israel and joined Ligat Nashim in the league's first season, [1] Where it played for the next four seasons. In 2000–01, the club advanced to the Women's Cup semi-finals, losing to eventual cup winner, Hapoel Tel Aviv 2–7. [2]

Ligat Nashim is the Israeli women's football league. It has been run by the Israel Football Association since 1998.

The 1998–99 Ligat Nashim was the inaugural season of women's league football under the Israeli Football Association. The league was won by Maccabi Haifa, followed by Hapoel Tel Aviv, ASA Tel Aviv University and Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The 2000–01 Israeli Women's Cup was the 3rd season of Israel's women's nationwide football cup competition.

At the end of the season, after the club finished bottom of the league, the club folded.

The 2001–02 Ligat Nashim was the fourth season of women's league football under the Israeli Football Association.
