Harald McPike (born 1958) is a Bahamas-based Austrian billionaire, and a 36% owner of Starling Bank. [1]

He was born in Zürich, Switzerland in 1958. [2] He grew up in Austria, and in the 1980s, studied economics at the University of Vienna. [2]

McPike started his career as a blackjack player. [3] [4] He is the founder of the Bahamas-based quantitative investment manager QuantRes. [5]

McPike has been to the North and South Poles, and wants to go into space. [6] In 2014, he paid a US$7 million deposit to Virginia company Space Adventures towards a lunar orbit for $150 million, and in 2019 after two years of litigation settled with the company. [6]

He is based in The Bahamas. [6] McPike owns the 164-feet hybrid yacht Home, [7] which is estimated to be worth $35 million. [8] He has lived aboard the yacht, [9] and listed it for sale in 2021. [10]

McPike is married to Joann McPike, the founder of Think Global School. [2] They have a son. [11]

Motor Yacht A is a superyacht designed by Philippe Starck and engineered by naval architect Martin Francis. She was built by the Blohm + Voss shipyard at the HDW deepwater facility in Kiel. She was ordered in November 2004, and delivered in 2008 at a rumoured cost of US$300 million. With a length of 119 metres (390 ft) and measuring almost 6,000 tonnes, she is one of the largest motor yachts in the world. Before 2022 she was connected with the Russian entrepreneur and industrialist Andrey Melnichenko, but, according to his representatives, he has no relation to her anymore, neither in terms of ownership, nor in any other way. The yacht has been laid up in the United Arab Emirates since 2022.

Whisper, formerly known as Kismet, is a 95.2-metre -long superyacht which was built by Lürssen in 2014. It was managed by the Moran Yacht & Ship chartering business, and was owned by Pakistani-American billionaire Shahid Khan. In September 2023, the vessel was sold to Eric Schmidt and renamed Whisper.

<i>Tranquility</i> (yacht)

Draak, previously known as Tranquility and Equanimity, is a 91.50 m (300.2 ft) superyacht launched at the Oceanco yard in Alblasserdam, with Oceanco responsible for the exterior design, while Winch Design worked on the interior. The yacht was allegedly purchased by Malaysian financier Jho Low using money stolen from the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund 1MDB. It was seized by the Malaysian authorities in 2018, judicially sold to the Genting Group in early 2019, and renamed Tranquility. It was then sold to Gabe Newell in September 2023, and renamed Draak.

Aviva is a 98-metre (322 ft) length motor yacht. She is the fourth yacht named Aviva built for Bahamas-based British businessman Joe Lewis, and replaces the 68m Aviva (III). Like her predecessor, Aviva was designed by Reymond Langton, and built by Lemwerder-based German builder Abeking & Rasmussen. The hull of the ship was built at Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft and launched in 2015.

The 142 m (466 ft) superyacht Nord was launched by Lürssen at their yard near Bremen-Vegesack. Both the yacht's exterior and interior design are the work of Nuvolari & Lenard. Nord, formerly known as Project OPUS, was built under the supervision of yacht brokerage Moran Yacht & Ship based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The ship belongs to billionaire Alexey Mordashov and is estimated to be worth $500 million. Following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine the yacht sailed to the Seychelles and then on to the Russian Pacific port of Vladivostok to escape seizure by Western authorities.

<i>Koru</i> (yacht) Luxury superyacht owned by Jeff Bezos

Koru is a luxury custom superyacht owned by Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. The vessel was built in the Netherlands by Oceanco starting in 2021, and delivered in April 2023. It is a three-masted sailing yacht 127 meters (417 ft) long with a navy blue hull. The superyacht is reported to have cost $500 million or more with an additional annual maintenance cost of at least $30 million. When commissioned, the yacht was the second-largest sailing yacht in the world, after Andrey Melnichenko's Sailing Yacht A.

International sanctions have been imposed during the Russo-Ukrainian War by a large number of countries, including the United States, Canada, the European Union, and a number of international organisations against Russia, Crimea, and Belarus following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began in late February 2014. These sanctions were imposed against individuals, businesses, officials and assets such as yachts from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
