Haribon Chebani

Haribon Chebani was the Provisional President of the Comoros from November 26, 1989 to November 27, 1989. [1] He had previously been the chief of the Supreme Court. [2] Chebani succeeded Ahmed Abdallah on the same day Abdallah was assassinated, and was a member of the same political party, the Comorian Union for Progress. [1] On the twenty-seventh, he was removed from office by French mercenary Bob Denard (who surrendered to French forces on December 15 of the same year). [2]

Ahmed Abdallah Abderemane was a Comorian politician. He was a member of the French Senate from 1959 to 1973, and President of the Comoros from 25 October 1978 until his death.

A political party is an organized group of people, often with common views, who come together to contest elections and hold power in the government. The party agrees on some proposed policies and programmes, with a view to promoting the collective good or furthering their supporters' interests.

The Comorian Union for Progress is a political party in the Comoros.

Ahmed Abdallah proclaimed the Comoros' independence on September 5, 1975 and became its first president.

1974 Comorian independence referendum

An independence referendum was held in the Comoros on 22 December 1974. The overall result was a strong "yes" vote, with 94.57% of voters voting for independence and almost all the "no" votes being cast in Mayotte, where there was a majority for remaining under French control. In contrast, on Mohéli only five out of 6,059 votes were against independence. Voter turnout was 93.3%.
