Harry and Jack Williams are English brothers best known for their work as television screenwriters and producers. They created The Missing and its spinoff Baptiste having previously worked on series such as Hotel Babylon , Wild at Heart , and Call the Midwife . After setting up their production company Two Brothers Pictures in 2014, they developed and produced Fleabag and created Liar , Angela Black , and The Tourist .

Early life

The brothers were born in England. Jack was born in London on 15 January 1979, but Harry's birthplace and date of birth is unknown. They are the sons of writer and director Nigel Williams and producer Suzan Harrison.

Career

The Williams started out writing comedy, including Roman's Empire and Honest. [1] Jack also moonlighted as a script editor, while Harry had some small acting roles. They expanded to drama series, such as Hotel Babylon , Wild at Heart , and Call the Midwife . Their animated sitcom Full English , was released in 2012, and other than Fried in 2015, the Williams would shift towards primarily writing thrillers. In 2014, the first series of The Missing, an international co-production between the BBC and Starz, was broadcast. [2] [3] The second series was announced in December that year [4] [5] and production began in February 2016. Subsequently, the character of Julien Baptiste was given his own series. With Tchéky Karyo reprising the role, the programme was broadcast from 2019 to 2021.

The Williams set up the production company Two Brothers Pictures in 2014. It has since developed and produced television projects such as Fleabag , as well as several of the Williams' own projects, such as Liar, Angela Black and Boat Story . In 2022, their thriller series The Tourist , starring Jamie Dornan as an amnesiac, aired on BBC One. In March 2022 it was renewed for a second season which aired in January 2024. [6]

Their series The Assassin began filming in Greece in August 2024 with a cast including Keeley Hawes. [7] [8]

The first eight-part series, about the search for a missing boy in France, was directed by Tom Shankland. It stars Tchéky Karyo as Julien Baptiste, the French detective who leads the case, with James Nesbitt and Frances O'Connor as the boy's parents.

The series premiered on ITV on 11 September 2017, with the first series concluding on 16 October 2017. Upon its debut, it received positive reviews, with many critics praising the performances of Froggatt and Gruffudd. The programme was renewed for a second and final series, which premiered on 2 March 2020, concluding on 6 April 2020.

Two Brothers Pictures is a British television production company founded in 2014 by brothers Harry and Jack Williams. The company launched with the BBC One series The Missing. The show was nominated for 2 Golden Globe Awards, 4 BAFTAs and 2 Emmys as well as winning two Nymph d'Ors, Bulldog, and BPG awards. The Missing returned in 2016 for a second series airing on BBC One and Starz.

Angela Black is a six-part thriller series, created and written by Harry Williams and Jack Williams, which began airing on ITV on 10 October 2021, in six weekly installments. The show is internationally co-produced by Spectrum Originals and ITV in conjunction with Two Brothers Pictures.

Crossfire is a 2022 British television thriller series, created and written by Louise Doughty. It is about a British family who are caught up in an armed assault on a holiday resort in Spain. It was produced by Dancing Ledge Productions, in association with Buddy Club Productions, for the BBC, with the participation of RTVE. It stars Keeley Hawes, Josette Simon and Anneika Rose, and was broadcast on 20, 21 and 22 September 2022 on BBC One.

The Assassin is an upcoming crime thriller television series created by Harry and Jack Williams and starring Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore, for Amazon Prime Video.
