The Ramon Magsaysay Award is an annual award established to perpetuate former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay's example of integrity in governance, courageous service to the people, and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society. The prize was established in April 1957 by the trustees of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund based in New York City with the concurrence of the Philippine government. It is often called the "Nobel Prize of Asia".

He started his career in journalism as the chief reporter of The Rising Nepal in 1965 and became editor of Gorkhapatra and executive chairman and general manager of Gorkhapatra Corporation. He is also the founder of many organizations such as Nepal Press Institute, Nepal Forum for Environmental Journalist, Media Services International, and Radio Sagarmatha, the first independent private FM radio station. Awarded the Knight International Press Fellowship Award by the International Center for Journalists in Washington, D.C. and the Ramon Magsaysay Foundation in Manila, Philippines, he also pioneered the publication of a Nepalese Wall Newspaper, and is credited with introducing reporting on development of rural Nepal. Presently, he is the Secretary General of Nepal Press Institute, Chairman of Media Services International, and Chairman of Himal Association. He is a prominent media teacher in Nepal who produces many professional journalists.
Ramon Magsaysay (Cubao) High School (RMCHS), also referred to by its colloquial portmanteau Monsay or Monching, is a public high school in Quezon City, Philippines. It was founded as an annex of Quezon City High School (QCHS) in 1953 then became an independent school in 1958. It is one of the two schools in Metro Manila named after President Ramon Magsaysay.

Kim established the Foundation for Preventing Youth Violence (FPYV) after his son committed suicide due to school bullying. His commitment to volunteer service was acknowledged with the Yujip Award, Silver Medal, in 2004. The year 2014 marked a milestone as he became the first Ashoka Senior Fellow in South Korea. Continuing his journey, he was honored with the 32nd Inchon Award in the Education category in 2018. He became a rare case, being both the first and the last non-educator to be selected in Education category. He is a recipient of Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2019 for his advocacy for the youth.
