Hass is a German punk band founded in 1978 in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Members are from the cities of Marl and Recklinghausen. [2] [3] Their music is categorized as Deutschpunk, and the lyrics are generally politically motivated. [4] Hass is known for their anti-fascist position, exemplified in the song Lasst die Glatzen platzen (English translation: "Let the skin-heads break open"). They have released ten full-length albums, three EPs, and four singles.

History

As a band founded in 1978, Hass is one of the first Deutschpunk bands. Their debut album Hass allein genügt nicht mehr was released in 1981 by H’Art Musik. The original band line-up was: Steffi Syndikati (vocals), Peter "Hecktor" Blümer (guitar), Jan Ostblock (bass), and Bertie Klompenhouver "B.A.P." (drums). Later Christian Römer joined the band as a second guitarist. This release was supported by a tour [5] and a second pressing of the LP appeared on the music label Ariola.

Since 1988 the band practices in a practice room in the city of Marl, in the district Sinsen-Lenkerbeck. The band founded its own record label "Hass Produktion," which has released many cds under the label code 7120.

After the release of their album Endstation in 2000, the band broke up. Between 2003 and 2007, guitarist Peter "Hecktor" Blümer was part of the band Rasta Knast. Drummer Alex Schwers] played in several bands, including Slime, Rasta Knast, Eisenpimmel, Jeff Dahl Group, Die Mimmi’s, Knochenfabrik, and Chefdenker. In addition to this he organized the annual punk music festivals Ruhrpott Rodeo and Punk im Pott. [6]

Hass reformed in the fall of 2007 around a reunion tour. In 2014 they released the new album Kacktus on the label Aggressive Punk Produktionen. [7] [8] The recordings for this album were done by Peter Blümer (guitar), Alex Schwers (guitar), Chris Roemer (bass), Karsten Siebert (drums), and Thomas Sohns (vocals). Claudius Reimann played the accordion as a guest musician on the album. This album includes a cover of Rio Reiser's song Alles Lüge. In June 2014, the band toured to support the album, and played shows in Hamburg, Berlin, and Karlsruhe, among other cities.

In 2020 Hass had to cancel several concerts for health reasons for Thomas Sohns, and he later left the band. [1] He was replaced by singer Marv Mandela. [9] [10] Hass's album Macht kaputt, was längst kaputt ist (English translation: "Break what has long been broken"), released in 2020, still included Thomas Sohns on vocals. Marv Mandela sang on only one song, Zum Scheißen zu doof (English translation: "Too stupid to shoot"), which also includes an introduction from Oliver Kalkofe. [11] In 2022, Hass released a self-titled EP on Aggressive Punk Produktionen. On this EP is the song Das hunderttausendste Anti-Nazi-Lied (English translation: "The hundred-thousandth anti-Nazi-song"). [12]

Their lyrics are also against right-wing extremism, a common theme for many German punk bands. Terrorgruppe is known for live performances involving on-stage gags and audience participation. They played at the Chaostage in Hannover in 1995, and wrote the song "Wochenendticket" about the experience.

Die Skeptiker is a German punk band founded in 1986 in East Berlin. The band is one of the most significant punk bands in East Germany, and belongs to the group of punk bands known as die anderen Bands, along with Sandow, Die Art, Feeling B, Tausend Tonnen Obst, and Die Firma. Although they performed songs critical of the Wall, they were able to gain an official license to perform live shows (Spielerlaubnis) by the East German state by writing intelligent lyrics with criticism between the lines. They were also able to establish themselves in the broader German music scene after German reunification.

Dritte Wahl, also written 3. Wahl is a German punk rock band from Rostock in Germany. Their music is classified as Deutschpunk and displays clear metal influences. Dritte Wahl’s lyrics are in German and are very direct, politically motivated, and left-leaning. As a German punk band, and particularly as a punk band formed in the former East Germany under the communist state, their songs handle common themes. In the song Macht die Augen auf they took on the subject of the 1992 anti-immigrant Rostock-Lichtenhagen riots. In their song Mainzer Straße, Dritte Wahl describe the Battle of Mainzer Straße that took place in East Berlin in 1990 when the city decided to clear the squatted houses. In their song Bad K., Dritte Wahl describe the contested circumstances of the death of Wolfgang Grams, a member of the far-left Red Army Faction.

When they have granted interviews it has been on the condition that no recording of the interview be made and that their answers will not be directly quoted. On the band's official website, there only appears the name of the band, and no further information. Rasta Knast is a German punk band founded in the city of Celle, Germany in 1997. The band name is a playful reference to the Swedish punk band Asta Kask, known as a foundational band of Swedish punk rock, and the musical genre trallpunk. Rasta Knast's music is in the musical style of trallpunk, but generally uses German-language lyrics rather than Swedish-language lyrics. They have covered songs from Swedish punk bands Asta Kask, Radioaktiva Räker, and the Troublemakers.

March is a Dutch punk band from the city of Breda in the Netherlands. March's music consists of melodic punk rock/hardcore, and has been compared to Petrol Girls and Antillectual. Their songs have addressed political issues including equal rights and climate change. March writes and plays songs with simple and straightforward English lyrics.
