Hassan Mohamed Mwanyoha is a Kenyan politician and a former member of the Kenya parliament elected from Matuga Constituency, Kwale County. He was first elected to the Parliament in 2002 and again in 2013. He previously served as a councilor of Tiwi Ward for 15 years on ticket of Kenya African National Union (KANU). [1]

Political career

Mwanyoha began his political career at grassroot level and served as councilor for Tiwi Ward for 15 years on the ticket of KANU party before leaving the seat in 2002 to run for Matuga Constituency seat in the national assembly which he won on the ticket of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He served in the parliament from 2002 to 2007 but lost reelection bid to his challenger Chirau Ali Mwakwere, a former transport minister who ran on the ticket of PNU. [2] Mwanyoha contested his re-election defeat in court which nullified the election and ordered a re-run. Mwanyoha again lost to his opponent in the by-election held in July 2010 after polling 10, 887 votes to place second behind his challenger Chirau Ali Mwakwere who scored 16,350 to win the by-election. He reclaimed the seat in the 2013 parliamentary election and served on the Joint Committee on Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library. [3] [4]

As a young man he became well-educated and entered government service in 1967, serving as an ambassador to several countries and also in several domestic positions, including education. He was a member of the Kenya African National Union until 2002, rising to the rank of deputy leader, but he left to join the new opposition National Rainbow Coalition which won the 2002 elections. He is a Muslim and enjoys playing golf.

James Aggrey Bob Orengo is a Kenyan lawyer, a well known human rights activist and politician who is the current governor for Siaya County. He is also one of the few Kenyan lawyers who have attained the professional grade of Senior counsel in the legal field, a title that he earned under former president Mwai Kibaki.

General elections were held in Kenya on 27 December 2007. Voters elected the President, and members of the National Assembly. They coincided with the 2007 Kenyan local elections.

The 10th Parliament of Kenya saw the National Assembly opened on 15 January 2008. This following the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of Raila Odinga winning a majority in the 2007 parliamentary elections. Raila was a candidate in the presidential elections, which resulted in a controversial victory for Mwai Kibaki of the Party of National Unity. The opening of the parliament was fraught with jeers, cheers and brawls between the opposing parties; Mwai Kibaki was greeted by the ODM members with silence and boos, while Raila was greeted by PNU members with accusations of genocide.

Clement Muchiri Wambugu is a Kenyan politician. He is the immediate former Member of Parliament for Mathioya constituency in Murang'a county. He was first elected to the Parliament in the 2007 Kenyan general election to represent Mathioya Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya under the PNU. Wambugu, a newcomer in politics, beat the incumbent and long serving MP for Mathioya Joseph Kamotho by garnering 9597 against Kamotho's 3156 votes. Wambugu was reelected on the National Alliance party ticket in the 2013 Kenyan general election. He served for one more term but he was unable to defend his seat in the 2017 Kenyan general election, where he was unseated by another newcomer, Honorable Peter Kimari, who is currently serving as the member of Parliament for Mathioya constituency.

Abu Mohamed Abu Chiaba is a Kenyan politician who has been a member of the Senate of Kenya since 2013 to 2017.

Peter Anyang' Nyong'o is a Kenyan politician and author who is the Governor of Kisumu County. He is a former Secretary-General of Orange Democratic Movement. Professor Nyong'o was the acting party leader from March 11 until late May when Raila Odinga was in the United States and was elected to the National Assembly of Kenya in the December 2007 parliamentary election, representing the Kisumu Rural Constituency. He was the Minister for Medical Services and previously the Minister for Planning & National Development. He previously served as the Senator of Kisumu from 2013 to 2017.

Hassan Ali Joho is a Kenyan politician and the former Governor of Mombasa County affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He was also elected to represent the Kisauni Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya during the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election. On 4 March 2013, during the general election, Joho was elected as the first governor of Mombasa County. In the 2017 General Elections held on 8 August, Joho retained his seat on an ODM ticket. Despite significant politically engineered setbacks, Joho emerged triumphant by winning with 220 576 votes against his closest rival Suleiman Shahbal with 69 322 votes, Suleiman was a member of the Jubilee Party. Joho served as governor of Mombasa until 2022, when he completed the constitunionally allowed two five-year terms. He was succeded by Abdulswammad Sherrif Nassir the former member of the National Assembly for Mvita Constituency.

Mwalimu Masudi Mwahima was a Kenyan politician. He belonged to the Orange Democratic Movement and was elected to represent the Likoni Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya since the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election.

David Musila is a Kenyan politician. He belongs to the Wiper Democratic Movement and was elected to represent Mwingi South Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya in the Kenyan parliamentary election of 1997. In 2013 he was elected as the first senator representing Kitui County.

Matuga Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of four constituencies in Kwale County. The constituency was established for the 1988 elections.

Belgut is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of six constituencies of Kericho County. The constituency was established for the 1963 elections. A new Constituency Sigowet-Soin was curved out of this Constituency in 2013 after the promulgation of the new constitution (2010).
