The Inland Northwest or Inland Empire is a region of the Pacific Northwest centered on the Greater Spokane Area, that includes all of Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Western Montana is sometimes considered part of the Inland Northwest, but generally is not considered part of the Inland Empire. Under some definitions, the term Inland Empire also excludes Central Washington. As of 2016 the U.S. Census Bureau estimated the region's population at 2,240,645, comparable to that of New Mexico. Its Canadian counterpart, north of the border, is the British Columbia Interior. Significant urban centers include the Spokane–Coeur d'Alene area and the Tri-Cities.
Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden was an American geologist noted for his pioneering surveying expeditions of the Rocky Mountains in the late 19th century. He was also a physician who served with the Union Army during the Civil War.
Hayden Island is an island in the Columbia River between Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon. The wide main channel of the Columbia passes north of the island. To the south, sheltered by the island, is a smaller channel known as North Portland Harbor. Much of Hayden Island is within Portland city limits, and recognized as one of its 95 neighborhoods.

Benjamin F. Hayden was an American attorney and politician in the state of Oregon. A native of Kentucky, he moved to the West Coast with the California Gold Rush in 1849 and to Oregon in 1852. A Democrat, he served in the Oregon House of Representatives, including the 1870 session as speaker of the body.
Hayden Bridge, a Howe truss structure, spans the Alsea River about 2 miles (3 km) west of Alsea, Oregon, United States. Constructed in 1918, the 91-foot (28 m) span is one of only seven remaining covered bridges in Oregon that were built before 1920. Similar spans such as the Mill Creek Bridge crossed the Alsea or one of its tributaries in the same vicinity, but only the Hayden Bridge has survived. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
Mount Chittenden el. 10,182 feet (3,103 m) is a mountain peak in the Absaroka Range in Yellowstone National Park. The peak was named by Henry Gannett of the Hayden Geological Survey of 1878 for George B. Chittenden. Chittenden was a Geological Survey member who had worked with Gannett, Hayden and others in surveys in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. Chittenden never participated in any of the Yellowstone surveys.
Mount Stevenson el. 10,230 feet (3,120 m) is a mountain peak in the Absaroka Range of Yellowstone National Park. Mount Stevenson was named in 1871 by geologist Ferdinand Hayden during the Hayden Geological Survey of 1871 for his friend and chief assistant, James Stevenson (1840–1888). Stevenson, who had run away from home as a young boy, first met Hayden in 1853 during an exploration of the Dakota Badlands. In 1866, Stevenson began working for Hayden and did so until 1879. Hayden specifically cited Stevenson's loyalty to him in his 1872 report on the 1871 survey of the park. Stevenson Island on Yellowstone Lake is also named for James Stevenson.

The North Portland Harbor is an Oregon waterway or channel in Multnomah County, specifically in Portland. An anabranch, about 5 miles (8 km) long, of the Columbia River, it separates Hayden and Tomahawk islands from the mainland. Flowing generally northwest, the channel rejoins the main stem slightly upstream of Kelley Point Park and the mouth of the Willamette River.
Cedric Ross Hayden is an American politician from Oregon. He currently serves in the Oregon House of Representatives from District 7, having been first elected in 2015. His father, Cedric Lee Hayden, is a former state representative.
