The Hayes Hotel is a former hotel located at 226-234 West Michigan Avenue in Jackson, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2024. [1]
In 1924, leading citizens of Jackson formed the Jackson Community Hotel Company in order to fund the construction of a new hotel. The site along Michigan Avenue was chosen based on its proximity to the Michigan Central Railroad. Once funding was secured, the company hired the Chicago architectural firm of Holabird & Roche to design the new hotel. The hotel opened in November 1926 with over 200 rooms, a ballroom, dining hall, dancing hall, various conference rooms, and retail storefronts on the ground level. [2]
In 1951, the Hayes Hotel was purchased by the conglomerate International Hotels, Inc., which refurbished the guest rooms. In 1964 the hotel was purchased by the Civic Center Hotel Corporation, a local Jackson business organization. Renovations were completed in 1967; however, the hotel was not profitable, and in 1973 it was sold to Consumers Energy. Consumers used the top floors for office space and leased the lower floors back to the Civic Center Hotel Corporation. Despite the sale, the hotel was unable to turn a profit, and hotel operations ceased in 1975. [2]
Consumers remained the primary occupant in the 1980s and 1990s, and in 2000 the building was purchased by the city of Jackson. The building has been vacant until 2024. [2] The city expected to sell the building to developers J. Jeffers & Co. in early 2024. The plan is for the building to be redeveloped into 84 apartment along with event space and retail areas. [3]
The Hayes Hotel is a ten-story red brick Neo-Classical Revival building, with terra cotta and cast stone ornamentation. The building has a flat roof. Small one-story additions dating from the 1960s are attached to the rear. [2]
The main elevation is seven bays wide, with a base consisting of the first and second stories, a main section consisting of stories three through eight, and a top section of the ninth and tenth stories. The lower section is made of red brick with a granite water table. A recessed entrance to the hotel is centrally located, with storefronts containing separate entrances to each side. Above this is a main section built of smooth red brick with brick quoins located at each end. The third- and fourth-story windows in this section are surrounded with terra cotta ornamentation. A thin terra cotta band above the eighth floor separates the main section from the top. Windows on the ninth and tenth floors are also surrounded with terra cotta ornamentation, and a gable is centrally located above. [2]

The Dermon Building is a historic building in Memphis, Tennessee, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was constructed in 1925 by Dave Dermon at a cost of around $800,000. From the time it was constructed, until 1983, it was the home of Dave Dermon Company, and Dave Dermon Insurance. 'Papa' sold the building in the 1930s, and although it has changed hands many times, it is still known as the Dermon Building today.
The Lee Plaza is a vacant 16-story high-rise apartment building located at 2240 West Grand Boulevard, about one mile west of New Center along West Grand Boulevard, an area in Detroit, Michigan. It is a registered historic site by the state of Michigan and was added to the United States National Register of Historic Places on November 5, 1981. Designed by Charles Noble and constructed in 1929, it rises to 16 floors and is an excellent example of Art Deco architecture of the 1920s.
The Belcrest Apartments is an apartment building located at 5440 Cass Avenue in Midtown Detroit, Michigan. It was built in 1926 as the Belcrest Hotel, designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1983, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It is significant as an early example of the apartment hotel development concept in Detroit, and a major early work of architect Charles N. Agree.

The Rialto Theatre in Tacoma, Washington was built in 1918 to showcase movies. Its design reflects the affluence following World War I. It reflects the character of a palace and is the result of efforts by entrepreneur Henry T. Moore and Tacoma architect Roland E. Borhek. Designed to hold 1500 patrons and retail space. The two-and-a-half-story structure is in the historic downtown of Tacoma. The area has long been associated with theaters and entertainment. The theater is freestanding, with a dramatic view on an incline with a classical façade sheathed of glazed white terra cotta. Both the interior and exterior retain most of the original design of Roland E. Borhek. The theater has an auditorium, proscenium with stage, a relocated projection booth, balcony, lobby, and commercial space. It has been altered with the removal of the storefronts and marquee. On the inside, the lobby's decorative ceiling has been hidden and the concession areas expanded.
The Detroit-Leland Hotel is a historic hotel located at 400 Bagley Street in Downtown Detroit, Michigan. It is the oldest continuously operating hotel in downtown Detroit, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. The ballroom of the Detroit-Leland has hosted a nightclub, the Leland City Club, since 1983. The hotel is now named The Leland and no longer rents to overnight guests.

The Park Avenue Hotel was a hotel in the Cass Corridor of Detroit, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. It was also known as Salvation Army Harbor Light Center and is not to be confused with Park Avenue House, also once known as Park Avenue Hotel. The building was imploded on July 11, 2015.

In 2020 it was included as a contributing property in the Downtown Rock Island Historic District. The hotel was named for Fort Armstrong, a fortification that sat in the middle of the Mississippi River near the present location of the Rock Island Arsenal. The building now serves as an apartment building.

Designed by Atlanta-based architectural firm Pringle and Smith in 1925, the brick building is located on Peachtree Street, across from the Fox Theatre. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2006, and, in 2022, is a member of Historic Hotels of America.
