Health First is a not-for-profit community health system located in Brevard County, Florida.
Founded in 1995, Health First operates four hospitals—Cape Canaveral Hospital, Holmes Regional Medical Center, Palm Bay Hospital and Viera Hospital—and is home to the county's only Level II Trauma Center. Health First also includes Health First Health Plans, which offers a variety of health insurance options across Central Florida, and Health First Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician group. Health First also offers outpatient and wellness services, including fitness centers, home care, hospice care, aging services, and family pharmacies.[ citation needed ]
The newest hospital, Viera, opened in 2011. It cost $166 million. [1] It has 100 beds, 273,000 square feet (2.54 ha). There are 250 employees. [2]
The Viera location also has a separate medical plaza where diagnostic tests are performed, the outpatient family pharmacy resides, and multiple provider offices are located. Also, the Pro-Health and Fitness Center is located next to the hospital and medical plaza.
In the year ending June 2010, there were 899 hospitalizations for angioplasty, the most selected surgery. There were 1,000 C-sections, and more than 1,000 knee replacements. Holmes had 228 open-heart surgeries. They cost from $108,377 to $139,040. [3]
Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute is a nonprofit cancer treatment and research center located in Tampa, Florida. Established in 1981 by the Florida Legislature, the hospital opened in October 1986 on the University of South Florida's campus. Moffitt is one of two National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers based in Florida. In 2021, U.S. News & World Report ranked Moffitt Cancer Center as a top 30 cancer hospital in the United States.
The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University (BSOM) is a public medical school located in Greenville, North Carolina, United States. King's Daughters Medical Center (KDMC), operating under the name UK King's Daughters, is a hospital system based in Ashland, Kentucky which is the city's largest employer at over 4,000 employees, generating more than $200 million in payroll a year. The hospital, which is owned by the University of Kentucky, is a locally managed, not-for-profit 465-bed facility that offers "cardiac, medical, surgical, pediatric, rehabilitative, psychiatric, cancer, neurological, pain care, wound care and home care" services.
Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital (NLFH) is a community-based hospital in Lake Forest, Illinois and a wholly owned subsidiary of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, one of the nation's premiere academic medical centers. The hospital was established in 1899 as Alice Home on the campus of Lake Forest College, and in 1942 a new hospital was built in its current location as Lake Forest Hospital. The 59th Medical Wing (MDW) is the U.S. Air Force's largest medical wing and is the Air Force functional medical command for Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA). It comprises seven medical groups across San Antonio. Three are located at the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center (WHASC); the 959th Medical Group is located at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC), JBSA-Fort Sam Houston; the 59th Training Group - the wing's newest group, activated on 4 January 2016, is also located at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston. It merged with Spectrum Health of West Michigan in 2022 to form Corewell Health, with the headquarters of the new health system being located in Grand Rapids. At the time of its merger, the health system had a net revenue of $4.7 billion and consisted of eight hospitals with 3,375 beds, 155 outpatient sites, nearly 5,000 physicians, more than 33,000 employees and about 2,000 volunteers. The Holmes Regional Medical Center is a not-for-profit hospital operated by Health First. It is located in Melbourne, Florida. It is a 514-bed facility, including the only level II trauma center in Brevard County. It also operates Brevard's only Level II Neonatal ICU.
Larkin Community Hospital (LCH) is a for-profit 146-bed general medical, surgical and psychiatric teaching hospital. In the last year with available data, LCH had about 7,523 emergency department visits and 5,792 admissions. Physicians at the hospital performed 794 inpatient and 739 outpatient surgeries.
