The Heart Institute of the Caribbean is a cardiac hospital and care institute on the island of Jamaica, specializing in cardiology, cardiovascular medicine, and cardiovascular surgery. [1]

The Heart Institute was founded in 2005 by cardiologist Ernest Madu. [2] Headquartered in Kingston, Jamaica, the Heart Institute of the Caribbean also operates additional branches in Mandeville, Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios. [3] In 2018, the Heart Institute established the first cardiac intensive care unit and heart surgery operating theatre on the island of Jamaica. [4] [5]

In 2017 the hospital was awarded the "International Service Award" from the American College of Cardiology. [6] [7]

Yacoub subsequently performed the UK's first combined heart and lung transplant in 1983.

Bernard Lown American inventor and cardiologist

Bernard Lown was a Lithuanian-American cardiologist and inventor. Lown was the original developer of the direct current defibrillator for cardiac resuscitation, and the cardioverter for correcting rapid disordered heart rhythms. He introduced a new use for the drug lidocaine to control heartbeat disturbances.

Peter Lougheed Centre Hospital in Alberta, Canada

National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD); Urdu نيشنل انسٹيٹيوٹ آف كارڈيو ويسكيولر ڈيزيزز in collaboration with the Government of Sindh are a chain of health care centers located in Sindh, Pakistan. It was founded in 1963 by Dr. Ali Muhammad Kasim. The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) has become the only healthcare facility in the world to have performed over 4,000 cardiac surgeries and 8,197 primary PCIs, over 12,000 procedures [and] dozens of cardiac implants, all free of charge at our main centre in Karachi and eight satellite centres spread all over Sindh.
