Hege Søfteland

Hege Søfteland (born 25 July 1959) is a Norwegian nationalist politician and immigration opponent.

A former member of the Conservative Party and Progress Party, [1] she has since the late 1980s been present in numerous anti-immigration, far-right and nationalist parties. She was a member of Stop Immigration until 1989 when she was excluded together with Erik Gjems-Onstad and her cohabitant Torfinn Hellandsvik. [2] For the 1991 election she led the short-lived National Democrats, and was later active in the National Alliance, [3] as well as the organization Norwegian League. [4] She is currently a member of the Democrats, and ran for the 2009 election as the party's 7th candidate in Oslo. [5]

The Progress Party is a political party in Norway. It is the country's third largest political party, and a part of the centre-right government coalition. The current leader of the party is Siv Jensen, who is also serving as Norway's Minister of Finance.

Stop Immigration was a political party in Norway, founded by Jack Erik Kjuus in 1987. The party was never particularly successful, and its only elected representative was in the Drammen city council, in both 1991 and 1995. The party was succeeded by the White Electoral Alliance in 1995.

Erik Gjems-Onstad Norwegian lawyer, officer, politician and sports official

Erik-Ørn Gjems-Onstad, MBE was a Norwegian resistance member, officer, lawyer, sports official, politician, author and anti-immigration activist.

At a 1992 television debate, she refused to handshake Aslam Ahsan, leader of the Pakistani Labour Union, and among other things stated that "Gro Harlem Brundtland is the biggest country betrayer since World War II". [6] She has otherwise compared immigration to Norway with the Nazi occupation of Norway. [7] She is a self-declared nationalist, but as the newspaper Aftenposten had called the infamous 1995 Norwegian League meeting at Godlia kino a "Nazi meeting", she however denied being a racist, and said that it is "terribly stigmatising to be called a Nazi [...] because we are critical of the Norwegian immigration policy". [8]

Gro Harlem Brundtland Norwegian politician

Gro Harlem Brundtland is a Norwegian politician, who served three terms as Prime Minister of Norway and as Director-General of the World Health Organization from 1998 to 2003. She is also known for having chaired the Brundtland Commission which presented the Brundtland Report on sustainable development.

Fatherland Party (Norway) political party in Norway

The Fatherland Party was a political party in Norway, which was founded by former local Progress Party politician Harald Trefall in 1990. Primarily based in Western Norway, the party supported nationalist positions such as opposition to immigration and the European Union. It got two representatives elected to public office in the 1991 local elections, in a county and municipal council respectively. The party never won representation since, and was dissolved in 2008 after years of electoral inactivity.

Knut Arild Hareide Norwegian politician

Knut Arild Hareide is a Norwegian politician who serves as a member of parliament from Hordaland and as the leader of the Christian Democratic Party from 2011 to 2019. Hareide served as Minister of the Environment from 2004 to 2005 in the second Bondevik cabinet. In 2007 he announced he would step down from the national political scene for the time being, but he returned when he was nominated as the top candidate for the Christian Democratic Party ticket in Akershus in the 2009 election where he won the county's leveling seat. After Dagfinn Høybråten stepped down as party leader, Hareide was unanimously elected to take his place at the 2011 party convention. In the 2013 election, Hareide was reelected to parliament, this time from his home county of Hordaland.

Vidar Sveinung Kleppe is a Norwegian politician. He was a Member of Parliament and deputy leader of the Progress Party until he was suspended and left the party in 2001. He was the leader of the Democrats party from 2002 to 2012, and has since 2003 held office as a member of the Vest-Agder county council and the Kristiansand municipal council.

Siv Jensen is a Norwegian politician who has been Minister of Finance since 2013, and leader of the Progress Party since 2006. She has been a member of the Norwegian parliament from Oslo since 1997.

Christian Tybring-Gjedde Norwegian politician

Christian Tybring-Gjedde is a Norwegian politician for the Progress Party, and former senior civil servant. He has been a member of the Norwegian parliament since 2005, and was the leader of the Progress Party's Oslo chapter from 2010 to 2014. Before entering politics, he worked as Assistant Director-General in the Norwegian Ministry of Defence.

Per-Willy Trudvang Amundsen is a Norwegian politician for the Progress Party who served as Minister of Justice from December 2016 to January 2018. He previously served as state secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development from 2013, and represented Troms in the Norwegian parliament from 2005 until 2013.

2009 Norwegian parliamentary election election

The 2009 parliamentary election was held in Norway on 13 and 14 September 2009. Elections in Norway are held on a Monday in September, usually the second or third Monday, as determined by the king. Early voting was possible between 10 August and 11 September 2009, while some municipalities also held open voting on 13 September. Voters elected 169 members for the Storting, each for a four-year term. Voter turn-out in the 2009 general elections was 76.4%.

Sylvi Listhaug Norwegian politician

Sylvi Listhaug is a Norwegian politician for the Progress Party. Listhaug served as Norway's first Minister of Immigration and Integration from 2015 to 2018, a specially created cabinet position during the European migrant crisis, and Minister of Agriculture and Food from 2013 to 2015. She served as Minister of Justice, Public Security and Immigration from January 2018 until her resignation in March 2018. Originally from the rural municipality of Ørskog in Sunnmøre, she began her political career in Oslo as City Commissioner of Welfare and Social Services.

Norwegian Peoples Party

The Norwegian People's Party is a political party in Norway which was founded in 1999. The party is led by Oddbjørn Jonstad, a former local leader of the Progress Party who was expelled from the party following some controversial proposals he made on immigration issues. The party contested the 2001 election in all counties, but in 2003 in only one; a lack of resources led Jonstad himself to head a local Democrats list instead. The NFP gained little support in these elections, and has not contested an election since.

The National Democrats was a political party in Norway, which was founded in January 1990. The party was led by Hege Søfteland, who had been excluded from Stop Immigration. The party's main issue was to stop what it called the "mass immigration to Norway." It also wanted to stop foreign aid and replace it with a "disaster fund", and was against Norway joining the European Economic Community.

Mette Hanekamhaug Norwegian politician

Mette Hanekamhaug is a Norwegian politician for the Progress Party. In the 2009 parliamentary election, she was the youngest person to be elected to the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget). Hanekamhaug represents the county of Møre og Romsdal.

Stop Islamisation of Norway is a Norwegian organization which was established in 2008, although its history goes back to a group started in 2000. Its stated aim is to work against Islam, which it defines as a totalitarian political ideology that violates the Norwegian Constitution as well as democratic and human values. The organisation is led by Arne Tumyr, and has several thousand members and supporters.

The 1995 Norwegian Association meeting at Godlia kino was a meeting that was held on 2 September 1995, right before the electoral campaign for the 1995 local elections. The meeting was attended by many nationalist and far-right organisations, but gained notoriety because the profiled Progress Party Member of Parliament Øystein Hedstrøm was revealed to have been present and held a speech at the meeting.

Jørn Lasse Stang is a former Norwegian politician and Member of Parliament for the Progress Party.

Helge André Njåstad Norwegian politician

Helge André Njåstad is a Norwegian politician for the Progress Party. He was elected to the Parliament of Norway from Hordaland in 2013 where he serves as the chair of the Standing Committee on Local Government and Public Administration. He was mayor of Austevoll from 2003 to 2013.
