The summer solstice or estival solstice occurs when one of Earth's poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun. It happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere. For that hemisphere, the summer solstice is the day with the longest period of daylight and shortest night of the year, when the Sun is at its highest position in the sky. At either pole there is continuous daylight at the time of its summer solstice. The opposite event is the winter solstice.
Riga Governorate, also known as the Province of Riga, was an administrative division of the Russian Empire in modern southern Estonia and northern Latvia from 1713 to 1783. The Province of Riga was formed to replace the Eastern Provinces of the Kingdom of Sweden in 1713. After the conquest of the regions of Ingermanland, Livonia and Estonia by Sweden in the Great Northern War in 1710. In 1713, the Provinces of Riga and Tallinn were separated into separate administrative units, and in 1713–1714, the organization and management of the Province of Riga were also defined.

"Tule luo" was chosen as the Finnish entry at the national final on 6 March and was Katri Helena's second Eurovision appearance, 14 years after her performance in Jerusalem in 1979.
Finland was represented by Katri Helena, with the song "Katson sineen taivaan" at the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 31 March in Jerusalem. "Katson sineen taivaan" was chosen as the Finnish entry at the national final organised by broadcaster Yle and held on 10 February. This was the first of Katri Helena's two Eurovision appearances for Finland, after she had finished runner-up in three previous national finals.

Miss Europe 1956 was the 19th edition of the Miss Europe pageant and the eighth edition under the Mondial Events Organization. It was held in Stockholm, Sweden on 1 June 1956. Margit Nünke of Germany, was crowned Miss Europe 1956 by out going titleholder Inga-Britt Söderberg of Finland.
