Helena Szafran (1888-1969) was a Polish botanist, educator and conservationist known for her botanical research on the flora of Greater Poland. [1] [2] [3]

The coat of arms of Poznań consists of white city walls with three towers. On the left (heraldic) tower stands Saint Peter with a key and on the heraldic right one stands Saint Paul with a sword. In the gate there are two golden crossed keys with a cross above. Over the middle tower, which contains a single window and is topped by a battlement, there is a gothic shield with a white eagle in crown. On the sides of the two saints there are golden crescents and stars. All of those elements are on a blue field. Over the shield there is golden crown. Author of modern version of coat of arms is Jerzy Bąk.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Luisenschule (Posen)</span> Polish private school

Luisenschule was a female school, open in Posen in the years of 1830–1919. Until 1873 it was operated as a private establishment, managed by the Luisenstiftung foundation; afterwards it was incorporated into the official Prussian education system. Its prestigious character attracted girls from high- and mid-range bourgeoisie; the school was particularly recognized for teaching music and arts in general. Since 1841 Luisenschule operated jointly with Lehrerinnen-Seminar, teachers’ training courses. The school was designed as a German-Polish institution, though since the mid-19th century the Polish ingredient went into decline; by the end of the century Luisenschule pursued a militantly patriotic Prussian education model. Periodically the Jews formed a significant fraction of the girls. Luisenschule students who became public figures in the realm of German politics, science and arts were Auguste Schmidt, Ida Barber, Elise Ekke, Margarete Gerhardt und Hedwig Landsberg. The best known Polish graduate was Walentyna Motty, later wife of Hipolit Cegielski.

Porta Posnania is an interactive heritage center in Poznań dedicated to the history of Cathedral Island the most ancient district of the city, in particular, the role that this place played in the times of the formation of the Polish Statehood. The opening took place on May 1, 2014. Porta Posnania consists of two parts: the main concrete building and the 19th century Cathedral Lock, which are connected by a glass footbridge over river Cybina. The Porta Posnania is a brand of the Poznań Historical Heritage Center, a local cultural institution of the city of Poznań, and at the same time is its residence.
