Turmeric is added as one of its main ingredients which makes the yellow chicken broth. It is one of the most popular variant of soto, a traditional soup commonly found in Indonesian cuisine. Besides chicken and vermicelli, it can also be served with hard-boiled eggs, slices of fried potatoes and Chinese celery leaves. Fried shallots are usually added as garnish. Coconut milk (santan) is also used as an additional ingredient. Koya, a powder of mixed prawn crackers with fried garlic, or sambal is a common topping. Krupuk or emping is also a common topping. Lalapan is usually served as a side dish.

Most of the damage was recorded in low buildings. Cracks were reported in higher buildings. The maximum Mercalli intensity (MMI) was MMI IX in San Nicolás, MMI VIII in Huacho, and MMI VII in Callao. Landslides and huge ground cracks were reported along the Pan-American Highway north of Ancón.

Caliche sangriento is a Chilean movie of 1969 and the first one directed by Helvio Soto. The plot takes place in 1879 through 1880 during the War of the Pacific, when Chile, Bolivia and Peru fought over control of the sodium nitrate deposits in the Atacama desert. The film decries the cruelty and absurdity of war and the disunity among the peoples of Latin America. The style of the movie has been compared to that of Western and Spaghetti Western movies.
