Mossel Bay is a harbour town of about 100,000 people on the Southern Cape of South Africa. It is an important tourism and farming region of the Western Cape Province. Mossel Bay lies 400 kilometres east of the country's seat of parliament, Cape Town, and 400 km west of Port Elizabeth, the largest city in the Eastern Cape. The older parts of the town occupy the north-facing side of the Cape St Blaize Peninsula, whilst the newer suburbs straddle the Peninsula and have spread eastwards along the sandy shore of the Bay.

Jacobus Frederik "Jacques" Smalle is a South African politician from Limpopo who has been serving as a Member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2014, and previously from 2009 to 2010. He was a deputy federal chairperson of the Democratic Alliance from 2020 to 2023. In 2012, he was elected Provincial Leader of the Democratic Alliance in the province. From 2010 to 2014, he was a Member of the National Assembly where he served as the Shadow Deputy Minister of Energy and as the Shadow Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture. Smalle was the Democratic Alliance's Limpopo Premier candidate for the 2019 election.
The council of the City of Cape Town in the Western Cape, South Africa is elected every five years by a system of mixed-member proportional representation. Half of the councillors are elected by first-past-the-post voting from individual wards, while the other half are appointed from party lists so that the total number of party representatives is proportional to the number of votes received. By-elections are held to replace the councillors elected by wards if a vacancy occurs.

Willem Abraham Stephanus Aucamp, known as Willie Aucamp, is a South African politician from the Northern Cape. He has been a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces since 2019. He is one of six permanent delegates from the province. Aucamp is a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA). Aucamp is also the son of former MP Cassie Aucamp.
Ockert Stefanus "Okkie" Terblanche is a South African politician and retired police general serving as the Shadow Deputy Minister of Police since June 2019. He has been a Member of the National Assembly since May 2019. He represented the Western Cape in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) from October 2015 to May 2019. Terblanche is a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA).
Wayne Maxim Thring is a South African teacher and politician who serves as the deputy president of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP). He was sworn in as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa in May 2019. Thring had previously served as an MP in the same house in 2013.

Dirk Kotzé is a South African politician, businessman and farmer serving as the Executive Mayor of the Mossel Bay Local Municipality since November 2021. A member of the Democratic Alliance, he previously served as the deputy mayor of the municipality from 2016 to 2021.
Mthokozisi Selby Khumalo is a South African politician, civil servant and Pentecostal preacher of the Apostolic Faith Mission. He served in the National Assembly from 2004 to 2006, representing the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) until he defected to join the African National Congress (ANC) during the 2005 floor-crossing window. He left Parliament in May 2006 and subsequently served from 2006 to 2021 as chief director for communications in the office of the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal.
