Henry the Hatter is a retail store in Detroit, Michigan. It was founded by Henry Komrofsky in 1893.
Henry Komrofsky had worked as a hatter at the John C. Hartz shop before deciding to open up his own shop. Gustave Newman was a young stock and delivery boy for Komrofsky in the year 1904. In 1919, Newman and Komrofsky started to run the store as partners. Shortly after the two began their partnership, the store moved to the Library Park Hotel Building, on Gratiot and Library street. A second store was built in 1923 on Michigan avenue in the Lafayette Building. Henry Komrofsky died in 1941, and Newman continued to run the store. In the late 1940s, Newman sold the store to Seymour Wasserman, a New Yorker who worked in his uncle's factory before buying his own in 1939. In 1952, the original Gratiot Avenue store was demolished, and the store moved to Broadway street in Detroit, where it still stands today. In 1960, the second store on Michigan Avenue closed, but was relocated to Griswold Ave in 1961. In 1962, the store was destroyed in a fire. Seymour Wasserman continued to run the original store until 1973. His son Paul Wasserman currently owns the shop and has since 1973. Seymour died in 1998 at 83 years old.
Henry the Hatter was a hat factory until 1985. The hat factory was able to create special custom hats within a few hours of the order. The store is also known for its kindness towards its customers and closeness to those who buy hats from the store. Celebrities Run DMC, LL Cool J, Kid Rock, and Steve Harvey are all store regulars, and Kid Rock featured the store in his video for "Roll On". [1]
Henry the Hatter received notable recognition after 34th president Dwight D Eisenhower wore a hat from the store at his inauguration. Henry the Hatter has been recognized by the Historical Society of Michigan and has been named "Hat Retailer of the Year" twice.
On June 30, 2017 it was announced that the Detroit store, which had been at its current location since 1952, would be closing on August 5, 2017, after the lease to the building was lost. [2]

Willow Run, also known as Air Force Plant 31, was a manufacturing complex in Michigan, United States, located between Ypsilanti Township and Belleville, built by the Ford Motor Company to manufacture aircraft, especially the B-24 Liberator heavy bomber. Construction of the Willow Run Bomber Plant began in 1940 and was completed in 1942.
The Ford Piquette Avenue Plant is a former factory located within the Milwaukee Junction area of Detroit, Michigan, in the United States. Built in 1904, it was the second center of automobile production for the Ford Motor Company, after the Ford Mack Avenue Plant. At the Piquette Avenue Plant, the company created and first produced the Ford Model T, the car credited with initiating the mass use of automobiles in the United States. Prior to the Model T, several other car models were assembled at the factory. Early experiments using a moving assembly line to make cars were also conducted there. It was also the first factory where more than 100 cars were assembled in one day. While it was headquartered at the Piquette Avenue Plant, Ford Motor Company became the biggest U.S.-based automaker, and it would remain so until the mid-1920s. The factory was used by the company until 1910, when its car production activity was relocated to the new, bigger Highland Park Ford Plant.

Northland Center was a shopping mall on an approximately 159-acre (64 ha) site located near the intersection of M-10 and Greenfield Road in Southfield, Michigan, an inner-ring suburb of Detroit, Michigan, United States. Construction began in 1952 and the mall opened on March 22, 1954. Northland was a milestone for regional shopping centers in the United States. Designed by Victor Gruen, the mall initially included a four-level Hudson's with a ring of stores surrounding it. As originally built, it was an open air pedestrian mall with arrayed structures. The mall was enclosed in 1975 and expanded several times in its history. Additions included five other department store anchors: J. C. Penney in 1975, MainStreet in 1985, and TJ Maxx, Target, and Montgomery Ward in the 1990s. Managed by Spinoso Real Estate Group, Northland Center featured approximately 100 stores. Macy's, the last anchor, closed on March 22, 2015, exactly 61 years to the date of the mall's opening.

Seymour Horace Knox I, was a Buffalo, New York businessman who made his fortune in five-and-dime stores. He merged his more than 100 stores with those of his first cousins, Frank Winfield Woolworth and Charles Woolworth, to form the F. W. Woolworth Company. He went on to hold prominent positions in the merged company as well as Marine Trust Co. He was the father of Seymour H. Knox II and grandfather of Seymour H. Knox III and Northrup Knox, the co-founders of the Buffalo Sabres in the National Hockey League.
Donaldson and Meier was an architectural firm based in Detroit, Michigan. Founded in 1880 by John M. Donaldson (1854–1941) and Henry J. Meier (1858–1917), the firm produced a large and varied number of commissions in Detroit and southeastern Michigan. Donaldson, the principal designer of the partnership from a design point of view, was born in Stirling, Scotland and immigrated to Detroit at a young age. Transportation in metropolitan Detroit is provided by a system of transit services, airports, and an advanced network of freeways which interconnect the city of Detroit and the Detroit region. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) administers the region's network of major roads and freeways. The region offers mass transit with bus services provided jointly by the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) through a cooperative service and fare agreement administered by the Regional Transit Authority (RTA). Cross border service between the downtown areas of Windsor and Detroit is provided by Transit Windsor via the Tunnel Bus. A monorail system, known as the People Mover, operates daily through a 2.94 mile (4.7 km) loop in the downtown area. A proposed SEMCOG Commuter Rail could link New Center, Dearborn, Detroit Metropolitan Airport, and Ann Arbor with access to DDOT and SMART buses. Amtrak's current passenger facility is north of downtown in the New Center area. Amtrak provides service to Detroit, operating its Wolverine service between Chicago, Illinois, and Pontiac. Greyhound Lines operates a station on Howard Street near Michigan Avenue. The city's dock and public terminal receives cruise ships on International Riverfront near the Renaissance Center which complements tourism in metropolitan Detroit.
