Hercules was founded by Peter Georgieff Spassoff (b. 1886, d.1967). Georgieff was a successful importer of vehicles and a manufacturer of carriages. The brands he imported included International Harvester, Krupp, Adler, Triumph. He was the owner of a carriage assembly factory in Asparuhovo, adjacent to Varna's commercial port. Georgieff entered into a partnership with two brothers, Anastas and Panayot Ilchev, who imported vehicles from the United States. The Bratya Ilchevi Partnership was registered in 1926 at the Varna District Court. It was later terminated, by a court ruling in 1940, which followed an application by the partners to dissolve the partnership. [2]
Together, Georgieff and Ilchevi established Hercules by expanding Georgieff's carriage factory. They equipped the factory with tools and machinery required for the production of trucks, buses and bus bodyworks, funded by Bratya Ilchevi. [3] Georgieff continued to run the expanded factory.
The first bus was produced by Hercules in 1938 and operated on the bus line between Varna and Suvorovo. [4] It had 12 seats. Hercules buses were exhibited at trade fairs in Varna and Plovdiv and sold throughout Bulgaria. [5]
Hercules also had a sales office in Sofia.
Following the communist coup in September 1944, the Hercules factory was nationalised.

Burgas Airport is an international airport in southeast Bulgaria and the second largest in the country. It is near the northern neighbourhood of Sarafovo approximately 10 km (6.2 mi) from the city centre. The airport principally serves Burgas and other seaside resorts of Bulgarian south coast which attract many tourists during the summer leisure season. In 2018 it handled 3,277,229 passengers, a 9.9% increase compared to 2017.
On June 19, 2014, torrential rains caused severe flash flooding across northeastern Bulgaria leaving dozens of villages without electricity and submerging large parts of several cities in the region. At least 16 people were reported killed – 13 in the Asparuhovo district of Varna, one in Dobrich and two in the village of Tsani Ganchevo in Shumen Province.

MFC Spartak Varna is a Bulgarian beach soccer team based in Varna. The club was founded in 2008. Spartak have won a 7 Bulgarian Championship titles.
The 2018–19 First Professional Football League was the 95th season of the top division of the Bulgarian football league system, the 70th since a league format was adopted for the national competition of A Group as a top tier of the pyramid and also the 3rd season of the First Professional Football League, which decides the Bulgarian champion. The season began on 20 July 2018 and finished on 30 May 2019. Ludogorets Razgrad became champions for the 8th consecutive time, on the final matchday of the season, with a 4–1 home win over Cherno More Varna.
The 2019–20 Second League was the 65th season of the Second League, the second tier of the Bulgarian football league system, and the 4th season under this name and current league structure. The season began in July 2019 and ended in May 2020, but without playing all the scheduled games. The two promotion/relegation playoffs were held in July 2020.
The COVID-19 pandemic in Bulgaria is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have spread to Bulgaria when the country's first cases, a 27-year-old man from Pleven and a 75-year-old woman from Gabrovo, were confirmed on 8 March 2020. Neither of the two had traveled to areas with known coronavirus cases which is maybe because the PCR test that was used is deffective. The man tested positive for the virus after being hospitalized for a respiratory infection, and authorities announced plans to test several people who were in contact with the two individuals. Two other samples in Pleven and Gabrovo were positive on 8 March. Patient zero remains unknown.

Ludogorets Razgrad were the defending champions for the ninth consecutive time.
