The Hermann-Hesse-Literaturpreis is a literary prize of Germany in honour of German-born Swiss writer, poet and Nobel Prize winner Hermann Hesse. [1]

Contents

The award is presented in Karlsruhe. The prize sum is 15,000 Euros. Previous winners include Martin Walser, Hubert Fichte, Rafik Schami, Adolf Muschg, and Alain Claude Sulzer.

Not to be confused with the Calw Hermann Hesse Prize or the prize of the Internationale Hermann-Hesse-Gesellschaft (unofficial English name: International Hermann Hesse Society), which was awarded for the first time in 2017. [2]

The Deutsche Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung was founded on 28 August 1949, on the 200th birthday of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, in the Paulskirche in Frankfurt. The Swiss Book Prize is a literary award awarded annually by a jury on behalf of the Swiss Booksellers' Association. The prize amount is CHF 30,000. The award was instituted in 2008 following the example of the German Book Prize. Only German language works of authors living in Switzerland or of Swiss nationality are eligible.

The foundation of this municipal literature prize goes back to an initiative of the Baltic writer Eugen Assmann (1902–1979). The prize is to be awarded to an author for a special literary achievement within the literature of the entire Lake Constance area. The prize is endowed with 5,000 euros.

Rheingau Literatur Preis is a literary prize of Hesse. It is awarded annually since 1994 by the Rheingau Literatur Festival which follows the Rheingau Musik Festival. An author is awarded whose prose gained the attention of the literary critics

The Calw Hermann Hesse Prize is a literary prize awarded since 1990. It is named after the German-Swiss poet, novelist, and painter Hermann Hesse. Alternating every year since 2017, the International Hermann Hesse Prize of the Foundation and the Hermann Hesse Prize of the International Hermann Hesse Society are awarded in Calw. The first prize is awarded for "a literary achievement of international standing in connection with its translation". The latter is intended to promote the examination of the work of the poet, who was born in Calw in 1877. In 2017, the first recipient was Adolf Muschg.

Hans-Erich-Nossack-Preis was a former literary prize in Germany, later merged with the Literaturpreis des Kulturkreises der deutschen Wirtschaft in 2017.

Iris Hanika is a German writer. She was born in Würzburg, grew up in Bad Königshofen and has lived in Berlin since 1979, where she studied Universal and Comparative Literature at the FU Berlin. She was a regular contributor to German periodicals like Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Merkur. Hanika won the LiteraTour Nord prize and the EU Prize for Literature for her novel Das Eigentliche. In 2020, she was awarded the Hermann-Hesse-Literaturpreis for her novel Echos Kammern. In 2021, she won the Leipzig Book Fair Prize. Hanika wrote previously mainly short non-fictional texts, later novels, including two books on psychoanalysis.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Alain Claude Sulzer</span> Swiss writer and translator (born 1953)

Alain Claude Sulzer is a Swiss writer and translator. He was born in Riehen, near Basel. Sulzer became a librarian, but also translated from French, for example parts of Julien Green's diaries. As a journalist he wrote for various newspapers and magazines, including the NZZ. He has published more than ten books and has won several literary awards in the process, such as the Rauris Literature Prize (1984), or the Hermann-Hesse-Preis (2009).

The Eifel Literatur Festival is a volunteer-organized literature event held in the Eifel mountains in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate every two years as part of the state's "Cultural Summer".

Sasha Marianna Salzmann is a German playwright, essayist, theatre curator and novelist. She is writer in residence at the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin where she was artistic director of the studio theatre, Studio Я, from 2013 to 2015.

The Rauris Literature Prize is an annual Austrian literary award since 1972 by the Salzburg state government. The prize money is €10,000. It is awarded "for the best prose first publication by a German-speaking author from the previous year". The prize is presented at the opening of the Rauris Literature Days.
