Chiang Rai is the northernmost major city in Thailand, with a population of about 200,000 people. It is located in Mueang Chiang Rai District, Chiang Rai Province. Chiang Rai was established as a capital city in the reign of King Mangrai, in 1262 CE.

Mae Sai is a major border crossing between Thailand and Myanmar where the town of Tachileik, in Shan State is right across the bridge. Asian Highway Network AH2 crosses the Mae Sai River to the town of Tachileik in Myanmar. The town of Mae Sai and Tachileik are the bi-national conurbation shared between Thailand and Myanmar.
In June and July 2018, a junior association football team and their assistant coach were rescued from the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Chiang Rai Province in northern Thailand. Twelve members of the team, aged 11 to 16, and their 25-year-old assistant coach entered the cave on 23 June after a football practice session. Shortly thereafter, heavy rainfall partially flooded the cave system, blocking their way out, and trapping them deep within.

Ban Sop Ruak is a village in Wiang subdistrict (tambon) of Chiang Saen District (amphoe) in Chiang Rai Province, northern Thailand. The village is situated at the confluence of the Ruak River and the Mekong River which forms the tripoint border of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. This location has enabled it to be marketed to tourists as the "heart" of the Golden Triangle, as the area is popularly known as.
The Cave is a 2019 Thai action-drama film about the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand, written and directed by Tom Waller and co-produced by Waller and Allen Liu. The story is written from the points of view of several individuals involved in the rescue operation, and features cave diver Jim Warny and others as themselves. The film premiered at the 2019 Busan International Film Festival, and was released in Thailand on 21 November. It had a re-edited release in 2022 as Cave Rescue.
Phrom, also known as Phrom the Great or Phromkuman was a ruler of Singhanavati (Yonok) realm in Lanna region. He is the first Thai monarch who has been dubbed "Maharaja", but his history is rarely officially recorded. Most of them are more myths or folktales rather than real history. Therefore, it could be considered that he was just a legendary king. His era is uncertain in what year, but most archaeologists estimate that it was around 857–58.
