Christian Shaw (born January 31, 1998), known professionally as Hi-C, is an American rapper and record producer. Known for his eccentric production style using video game sound effects and high-pitched vocals, Hi-C was one of the two founding members of the Reptilian Club Boyz (RCB) collective.

Contents

He is credited with pioneering the hyper-digitalized sound with the use of iconography from early web, anime, and video games in hip-hop; [1] which would influence later subgenres such as sigilkore or digicore. As a result, he is commonly hailed as one of the most influential underground artists of the late 2010s and early 2020s. [2] [3]

Shaw began producing in 2011 under the name Chris the Pharaoh, later adopting the moniker Cry$tvr. He was also a member of the late collective Ca$hed Cobruhz, performing as C-Boogie. In 2016, he co-founded Reptilian Club Boyz with Virginia rapper Diamondsonmydick and assumed the stage name Hi-C. [4]

Reptilian Club Boyz released its first mixtape, Reptilian Shrine, in 2017. Its final mixtape, #RockOutGang, released on March 15, 2020. The collective would disband shortly thereafter, following Hi-C and other members distancing themselves from the group's primary founder, Diamondsonmydick.

Hi-C has continued to produce and perform music independently, collaborating frequently with artists such as Xaviersobased, Lil Yawh, and former Reptilian Club Boyz member Cartier'God. [5]

Personal life

Shaw was born on January 31, 1998, in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. "Hi-C" was a nickname given by his then-boss, who thought he was high the entire time. [6]

Shaw is a member of the furry fandom and has disclosed his fursona in various interviews. He explained that his interest in the subculture was "a troll" at first, but as he began to research the community he saw a lot of things about it that he resonated with. [7]
