Maulana Hidayat Rahman Baloch is a Pakistani politician and social activist from Gwadar from Balochistan. He is currently serving as the provincial general secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan chapter. [1] Baloch is also known for the Gwadar protest and for his leadership in the Haq Do Tehreek (HDT),a movement advocating for the rights of the people of Gwadar. [2] He was elected to the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan from the Gwadar constituency in 2024. [3]
Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch was born and grew up in Surbandan,a small coastal town in Gwadar District. [4]
In the 2024 election,Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman contested the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan seat PB-24 Gwadar. He won the election by securing 20,925 votes. [5] [6]
As the head of Gwadar Rights Movement (GRM),also known as Haq Do Tehreek (HDT),Rehman has been vocal about important issues affecting the people of Gwadar. HDT is a protest against illegal fishing,trawling and unnecessary check posts. [7] The movement's demands include a reduction in the number of check posts,facilitation of cross-border trade and a complete end to deep-sea fish trawling in the sea off Gwadar. [8]
Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman was arrested outside a court in Gwadar on 13 January 2023. He was charged with the murder of a police constable Yasir,who was killed during the protest. Police alleged that Rehman incited people to throw stones at government vehicles in protest. [8] Later,the anti-terrorism court handed him over to the crime branch police on a three-day physical remand. [7]
The Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered the release of Maulana Hidayatur Rehman on 18 May 2023. [9] He was released on bail on two sureties of Rs 0.3 million. [7]
Maulana Hidayatur Rehman has held the Sardars (chiefs) of Balochistan and their guardians are equally responsible for the deprivations of the people of the province. They are demanding education,clean drinking water and health facilities for the local people of Gwadar. He has also expressed concern over corruption and unfair distribution of resources in the province. [10]
Ataullah Mengal was a Pakistani politician and feudal figure. He was the head of the Mengal tribe until he nominated one of his grandsons,Sardar Asad Ullah Mengal,as his tribal successor. He was also the 1st Chief Minister of Balochistan during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's premiership from 1 May 1972 to 13 February 1973. He died on 2 September 2021 in Karachi.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is a Deobandi Sunni Muslim organization that was founded on 26 October 1945 by Shabbir Ahmad Usmani as a pro-Pakistan offshoot of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (JUH). It has run candidates for office in Pakistani provincial and national elections,and splintered into several groups in 1980,2007,and 2020.
Fazal-ur-Rehman is a Pakistani politician who is the president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F). He is also the president of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM),a coalition of political parties which ousted then prime minister Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion in 2022. He has been a member of the National Assembly since February 2024 and previously served in that position between 1988 and 2018. He was also the Leader of the Opposition from 2004 to 2007. He is a supporter of the Taliban government in Afghanistan and has demanded for its international recognition. In the 1980s,he was part of the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD),which was formed to end the military regime of General Zia-ul-Haq.

It was founded as a student movement on 26 November 1967 in Karachi and remains the largest ethnic Baloch student body in the country. It got divided due to ideological differences. BSO Pajjar and BSO Mohiuddin are affiliated with the parliamentary framework of Pakistan. Dr Allah Nazar,founder of pro independence wing,in 2002 while he was studying in college,created a breakaway faction —BSO–Azad —that advocated struggle for an independent Balochistan based on pre-colonial Baloch country. The Pakistani government banned the BSO Azad on 15 March 2013,as a terrorist organisation.

Gwadar protest is a current ongoing protest from 15 November 2021 on Gwadar's Port Road led by Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch and other leaders. Thousands of women along with their infants and children are protesting and want free access to the sea for fishermen,an end to harassment by the Coast Guard,seizure of vehicles and closure of trades at the border.

Mahrang leads the Baloch Yakjehti Committee,a human rights movement based in Balochistan. On 28 July 2024,she was part of the Baloch Raji Muchi in Gwadar,an event aimed at uniting the Baloch against these abuses.
The Haq Do Tehreek Balochistan is a Pakistani political movement and party active in southern Balochistan,mainly in Gwadar. The party's leader is Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch,who is a veteran Balochi nationalist politician from Gwadar. The party is active in southern port areas of Balochistan and protests issues like illegal fishing. The HDT was founded in 2021 in a coalition of politicians who advocated for human rights for Baloch people in Pakistan. The party heavily campaigned and won a majority of votes in the 2024 Balochistan provincial elections in the Balochistan provincial assembly seat PB-24. The Haq Do Tehreek also has a somewhat affiliation with the Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan.
