Dr. Hilowle Imam Omar is a Somali politician who hails from the Harti abgaal clan (a subclan of abgaal). [1] He took part in the Somali National Reconciliation Conference in Kenya. He was a member of the USC a former Mogadishu based faction. [2]

Ali Mohammed Gedi, popularly known as Ali Gedi, was the Prime Minister of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia from 2004 to 2007. He was relatively unknown in political circles upon his appointment as prime minister in November 2004. He is affiliated with the Abgaal subclan of Mogadishu's Hawiye clan, one of Somalia's four most powerful clan 'families'. He narrowly survived a suicide attack on his home that left at least seven people dead on June 3, 2007.

The Abgaal is a subclan of the Hawiye and the even larger Samaale clan. It is one of the major Somali groups and has produced many prominent historical Somali figures including 3 presidents, and the father of the Somali military. They are also the majority in the capital which is their traditional territory.

The Habar Gidir is a major subclan of the Hawiye. The clan has produced many prominent Somali figures, including the first Prime Minister of Somalia Abdullahi Issa Mohamud, Somalia's fifth President Abdiqasim Salad Hassan, and the current Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.

Mohamed Omar Habeb, commonly known as Mohamed Dheere or Mohamed Dhere, was a Somali faction leader based out of the city of Jowhar. He hailed from the Abgaal subclan of Hawiye. He also had significant influence on the northern parts of the capital Mogadishu where he controlled a militia of around 400 men.

The Hiraab is a Somali clan of the larger Hawiye. Members live in central and southern Somalia, from Galkayo to Mogadishu. They are also present in Ethiopia and Kenya. Most of them, such as the Abgaal, Habar Gidir and Sheekhaal live in Mogadishu. They once formed a kingdom which successfully revolted and was led by the Abgaal subclan against the Ajuran Sultanate and established an independent Hiraab Imamate, which included Hobyo. According to Bernhard Helander of Uppsala University, "the Imam of Hiraab is a hereditary position that traditionally is held by a person of the first-born branch, the Mudulood."

Abukar Umar Adani, also transcribed as Abukar Omar Adan, is a businessman from Mogadishu. He has been mentioned as the chief financial backer of the Islamic Courts Union. He hails from the Warsangali clan. As of 2008, he lives in Djibouti having fled Somalia following the defeat of the ICU by Ethiopian forces. In September 2007, Adani rejected Prime Minister Ali Mohammed Ghedi's offer to return to Mogadishu and participate in the second round of the Somali National Reconciliation Conference, saying that he has no plans to return to Somalia until the Ethiopians leave. Adani offered support to the UN-sponsored Djibouti peace talks between the Transitional National Government (TNG) and Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS). He has been a supporter of access to humanitarian emergency aid, and his influence led the ICU to embrace the same principle of assistance to national and internal humanitarian aid agencies.

Farah Weheliye Addo, also known as Sindiko, was a prominent Somali sports administrator.

Dr. Abdi Mohamed Ulusso is a Somali politician who ran for the Somali presidency in 2003. He hails from the Wacbudhan clan. He has served as Guddoomiyaha Golaha Midnimada Mudulood (GGMM), or Chairman of the United Mudulood Congress. He received his doctoral degree in education and political science from Cornell University.

Abdulahi Ahmed Afrah is a Somali politician who hails from the Waesle clan. In June 2007, he escaped an assassination attempt in northern Mogadishu.

Dr. Hussein Hagi Bood was a Somali politician from the Abgaal clan. In December 2000, Hussein reached an agreement with the Transitional National Government. On the morning of December 21, 2008, Bood died in a hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. Bood has held different positions in previous Somali governments and was one of the Somalia's well-known politicians. He was survived only by his wife.

Sheekh Ahmed Gabyow was a famous Somali poet from the Abgaal Hawiye clan. Gabyow lived in the coastal area north of Mogadishu in the first few decades of the Italian occupation. He was well known for the masafo, a genre of Somali poetry that is usually composed by religious men.

Dr. Ismail Jim'ale Osoble was a Somali lawyer and the Minister of Information in the government of Aden Abdullah Osman Daar shortly before the military coup d'état of 1969. Following those events, he was one of the few lawyers and human rights activists in the country. He was also one of the signers of the Somali Manifesto.

Benadiri Somali also referred to as “Coastal Somali” is a dialect of the Somali language. It is primarily spoken by the Benadiri people, who inhabit the southern Banaadir coast of Somalia.

The Abgaal subclan of Hawiye are well represented.

Abdirahman Yabarow Somali journalist

Abdirahman Yabarow is a Somali journalist. He hails from the Abgaal Hawiye clan. In the early 2000s, Yabarow worked in the UNDP's Documentation Unit. He later served as a Washington, D.C. correspondent for the BBC's Somali service. In 2009, Yabarow was appointed the Editor-in-Chief of the VOA's Somali service.

Hirshabelle, officially Hirshabelle State of Somalia, is a Federal Member State in south-central Somalia. It is bordered by Galmudug state of Somalia to the north, South West State of Somalia and Banadir region to the south, Ethiopia to the west and the Indian Ocean to the east. Jowhar is the capital of the Hirshabelle state of Somalia.

Division "12 April" is a division/area command of the Somali National Army. It was established by 2014, supervising Somali troops in the areas of AMISOM Sectors 1 and 5 around Mogadishu.
