Hisham al-Hayali (died 18 August 2012) was governor of Iraq's Diyala Governorate from March to August 2012 when he was killed in a car crash. [1] [2] His wife,former MP Tayseer al-Mashhadani,died in the same crash. [3] Their funeral was conducted on August 19,2012,at 10 am. [4]

The 3 March 2010 Baqubah bombings were a series of three bombings in Baqubah,Iraq,on 3 March 2010 that killed at least 33 people and injured 55 others. Baqubah,a mixed Sunni and Shia town,is the capital of Diyala Governorate,approximately 40 miles (64 km) north of the country's capital,Baghdad.

On 22 August 2014,Shia militants killed at least 73 people in an attack on the Sunni Musab bin Omair mosque in the Imam Wais village of Diyala Province,Iraq. Fadel Ahmed Abdullah al-Hiyali,better known by his noms de guerre Abu Muslim al-Turkmani,Haji Mutazz,or Abu Mutaz al-Qurashi,was the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) governor for territories held by the organization in Iraq. He was considered the ISIL second-in-command;he played a political role of overseeing the local councils and a military role that includes directing operations against opponents of ISIL. A suicide car bombing occurred on 17 July 2015 in the Iraqi city of Khan Bani Saad,targeting a local marketplace. As of 19 July 2015 approximately 130 people were killed in the bombing,with a similar number of injured. Several people were killed by collapsed buildings. The bomb was hidden under an ice truck in an attempt to attract more people amid the heat. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
