HiveColab is an innovation hub and startup incubator in Kampala, Uganda. The space was founded in 2010 [1] [2] and is noted as being one of Africa's first innovation hubs of note along with the IHub. [3] [4] [5] HiveColab was founded by African technologist and Appfrica CEO Jon Gosier, Senegalese Born, British Businesswoman Marieme Jamme, Daniel Stern, Teddy Ruge and supported by Director Barbara Birungi. [6] The space is funded by Appfrica, [7] IndigoTrust [8] and Dutch NGO Hivos. [9] HiveColab is one of the founding members of Afrilabs a network of African innovation hubs across the continent. Barbara Birungi has stated she's passionate about how technology can change the future of Africa, for women in particular. [10] [11]

Boda bodas are bicycles and motorcycle taxis commonly found in East Africa. While motorcycle taxis like boda bodas are present throughout Africa and beyond, the term boda boda is specific to East Africa. In Kenya, they are more frequently called piki pikis or Boda. Their ubiquitous presence in East African cities is the result of a number of factors including an increasing demand for public transit, the ability to purchase motorcycles on credit, and an influx of cheap imports from Indian manufacturers like Bajaj and high level of unemployment among the youth. In the countries where they are present, boda bodas can provide transportation options to riders and job opportunities to drivers while at the same time resulting in an increase in road hazards and collisions and unnecessary injuries and deaths.

The Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) is an agency of the government of Uganda. It promotes and facilitates the industrial and economic development of Uganda. Formed in 1952, it had some success in promoting local industrial development and was swelled with the addition of newly nationalised industries in the early 1970s. These, however, proved too much for the corporation, and it went into a slow decline before being completely phased out in 1998. The organisation was reconstituted with similar aims in 2008.

Standard Chartered Zambia, officially Standard Chartered Bank Zambia Plc, commonly known as is a Stanchart Zambia, is a commercial bank in Zambia and a subsidiary of Standard Chartered. It is licensed by the Bank of Zambia, the central bank and national banking regulator.

Kaleerwe is a neighborhood within Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. Kaleerwe is a busy road-side marketplace, beyond which is a residential slum. Due to its relative low altitude, compared to the surrounding hills, and its proximity to a wetland, the area is prone to flooding. Kaleerwe merges with its immediate slum-neighborhood to the southwest, Bwaise. One may argue that Kaleerwe is part of Bwaise.

Barbara Mutabazi is a Ugandan technologist, entrepreneur, and mentor. She is a co-founder and founding manager of HiveColab in Kampala, Uganda. She is the founder of Women in Technology Uganda, an initiative aimed at helping women and girls pursue technology careers. Prior to Hive Colab, Mutabazi was a member of staff at the African technology firm Appfrica.

Jonathan D. Gosier is a software developer, investor, and philanthropist. He was named as one of Ten African Tech Voices to Follow on Twitter by CNN and one of the 25 most influential African-Americans in Technology by Business Insider. He was awarded a TED Fellowship in 2009 and later named a TED Senior Fellow. Jon is Knight News Challenge award winner for Abayima which makes crisis communications technology for disasters. In 2013 Gosier was nominated as one of three Innovators of the Year by Black Enterprise Magazine for his work with data startup MetaLayer.

European Marketing Research Centre (EMRC) (is a not-for-profit international association, founded in 1992 in Brussels, Belgium. The organization exists to encourage and facilitate private sector investment in Africa to create sustainable economic development and drive regional change through international partnerships. EMRC is a collective network of entrepreneurs, financiers, consultants and officials based throughout the world. The organization’s strategic focus is to support economic development in Africa through partnership between African entrepreneurs and ventures and international corporations, and financial services firms. EMRC also supports intercontinental collaboration between African ventures.

Irene Birungi Mugisha, is a Ugandan entrepreneur, broadcaster, and columnist who works as a private secretary for the administration at the office of the president of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, effective September 2017.

Patrick Bitonder Birungi is a Ugandan economist, academic and corporate executive, who serves as the executive director of Uganda Development Corporation (UDC), effective 4 April 2019. UDC is a Uganda government-owned company, established in 1952, that is mandated to promote investment in the country and to manage government-owned investments in private businesses and industries.

Olive Birungi Lumonya, is a Ugandan businesswoman and corporate executive who serves as the deputy director general of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, effective 15 November 2021. Immediately before her current assignment, Birungi was the National Director of SOS Children's Villages Uganda, a non-government organization, that focuses on the needs of children.

Rowena Turinawe, is a Ugandan information technology professional and corporate executive, who works as the head of Innovation and Digital Services, at Centenary Technology Services Limited, the technology subsidiary company of the Centenary Group. Before that, she served as business transformation manager at National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-Uganda), a government parastatal organization.
