The Hoff Department Store is a 1916 Commercial-style building that spans a full block of Mount Horeb, Wisconsin's Main Street. [2]
In 1866, George Burrows established a one-story general store at "The Corners." It was the first business in the area, and served the rural community with food, hardware, clothes, and a post office for years. But in 1881 the railroad built a depot southwest of the Corners. In response, the Burrows store was moved, along with most of the other businesses, closer to the depot, to the site now occupied by the Hoff store. [3]
In 1887 Norwegian immigrant Andrew Hoff and his brother-in-law Adolph Elver bought the Burrows store, [4] and operated it for years. But the community continued to grow. In 1905 Hoff expanded the store, and from 1916 to 1917 he completely rebuilt it to the large brick building that stands today. The store remained in operation until 1984. [3]
In 1989, the building was added to the State and the National Register of Historic Places. [5]
Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park is a national historical park operated by the National Park Service that seeks to commemorate the Klondike Gold Rush of the late 1890s. Though the gold fields that were the ultimate goal of the stampeders lay in the Yukon Territory, the park comprises staging areas for the trek there and the routes leading in its direction. The Neiman Marcus Building is a historic commercial structure located in the Main Street District in downtown Dallas, Texas (USA). It is the corporate headquarters and flagship store of Neiman Marcus. It is the last of the original department stores still serving downtown Dallas. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property of the Dallas Downtown Historic District.

The Pollard Block is a historic commercial building at 7 Depot Street in Cavendish, Vermont. Built in 1895, it is a fine local example of commercial Italianate architecture, and was home to the village general store for 70 years. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
The Marshfield Central Avenue Historic District is part of the old downtown of Marshfield, Wisconsin. The original wooden downtown burned in a huge fire in 1887. Some of the brick buildings built immediately after the fire still stand - especially near the railroad. Other buildings were added later, and the district includes some off Central, like the old city hall and the depot.
The East Wilson Street Historic District includes remnants of businesses that grew around two railroad depots a half mile east of the capitol in Madison, Wisconsin, starting in the 1860s. A cluster of the hotel and saloon buildings from this district are still fairly intact, in contrast to Madison's other railroad station on West Washington. In 1986 the district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the State Register of Historic Places in 1989.
