Hongsa is a town in northwestern Laos. It is in Hongsa District in Sainyabuli Province. The town is 81 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of the provincial capital Sainyabuli. Nearby Ban Viengkeo is a rotating host to a major elephant festival. The district is the site of the Hongsa coal-fired power plant that began operation in 2015.
The Hongsa Coal Mine is a coal mine in Sainyabuli Province. The mine has coal reserves amounting to 424 million tonnes of lignite, one of the largest coal reserves in the world.
Kyler Cole Murray is an American professional football quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). Following one season of college football with the Texas A&M Aggies, Murray played for the Oklahoma Sooners, where he won the Heisman Trophy as a junior. Murray was selected first overall by the Cardinals in the 2019 NFL draft. The Mining industry of Laos which has received prominent attention with foreign direct investments (FDI) has, since 2003–04, made significant contributions to the economic condition of Laos. More than 540 mineral deposits of gold, copper, zinc, lead and other minerals have been identified, explored and mined. During 2012, the mining and quarrying sector's contribution to GDP was around 7.0%; during this reporting year the FDI in the mineral sector was of the order of US$662.5 million out of a total trade of $4.7 billion in the country. Laos is now a member of the WTO.
