The first season of Australian reality television series House Rules , also known as House Rules 2013, was commissioned in 2012 [1] and began airing on 14 May 2013. The series is produced by the team who created the Seven reality show My Kitchen Rules and is hosted by Johanna Griggs.

Contents

House Rules places six teams renovating each other's homes and further challenges for the ultimate prize of a full mortgage payment.

Competition Details

Phase 1: Interior Renovation

For the interior renovation round, all 6 teams had their homes transformed by each other through a rotation round format over a course of 6 weeks. At the end of each renovation, the highest scoring team received an advantage for the next renovation, and lowest scoring receiving a disadvantage. At the end, all scores were tallied up and the team with lowest overall total was eliminated from the competition.

    • Previous winner's advantage: None - Michelle & Steve came first in the last renovation, but due to this renovation being their home they are not involved in the renovation, therefore there is no winner advantage.

Phase 3: Gardens and Exteriors

The top 4 teams are challenged to transform the exteriors and gardens of each other's homes. Two teams are allocated to a home (that does not belong to them) and must renovate either the front or back yards, as well as improving the house exterior. For each house, the owners also left an exclusive item that must be used in the zone. The semifinals are held over two rounds and after both rounds are complete, the two lowest scoring team are eliminated.

  • Description — In round 1 of the exterior renovations, the 4 remaining teams head to Sydney and Adelaide to transform the gardens and house exterior in 3 and a half days. Teams are allocated to the front or back yard of either Michelle & Steve's or Carly & Leighton's house.

The third season of Australian reality television series House Rules, also known as House Rules 2015, was confirmed in 2014 and began airing on 5 May 2015. The series was produced by the team who created the Seven reality show My Kitchen Rules and was hosted by Johanna Griggs.

The Hotplate was an Australian cooking reality television series which aired on the Nine Network on 28 July 2015. The show consisted of state-based restaurants with teams travelling the country to dine in and score each other's restaurants. The restaurants were judged by British food writer and critic, Tom Parker Bowles and Melbourne restaurateur, Scott Pickett. The show pit six established suburban restaurants against each other all striving for a leg up in the industry—and an extra $100,000 in the bank, Sydney's Guillaume Brahimi, the French-born chef, appeared as a special guest judge during all elimination episodes.

Reno Rumble is the first season of Australian reality television series Reno Rumble, it aired on the Nine Network. Season one had former contestants from The Block on the Nine Network against former contestants from House Rules on the Seven Network. It was hosted by Scott Cam and judged by Darren Palmer and Romy Alwill. It premiered on May 5, 2015. The season was won by Ayden and Jess Hogan who received $100,000 with half to charity and a Mazda CX-5.

The seventh season of the Australian competitive cooking game show My Kitchen Rules premiered on 1 February 2016.

The twelfth season of the Australian competitive cooking competition show My Kitchen Rules, with the motto Share the love, premiered on the Seven Network on 7 August 2022.

The thirteenth season of the Australian competitive cooking competition show My Kitchen Rules premiered on the Seven Network on 4 September 2023.
