Howard-Miami Mennonite Church is a historical Mennonite church located in Amboy, Indiana, on the edge of Howard and Miami counties, about 12 miles from the city of Kokomo. [1] It is affiliated with the Evana Network. It is the oldest Mennonite church in Indiana, having conducted church services starting in 1848.[ citation needed ]
The first Mennonite settlers were from Holmes County, Ohio, and arrived in Miami county in 1848. From these meager beginnings the church grew and built their first church house in 1871. Major remodeling has occurred six times over the years, the most recent being the addition of a large fellowship hall in 1987. Remodeling of the sanctuary occurred in 1999.
Since 2008, the congregation has supported the Cattle Project, which raises and slaughters cattle which is then donated to Kokomo Urban Outreach and its food pantry. [2]
The church is nestled on three acres of land surrounded by rich corn and soybean fields. The building is wheelchair accessible and features a large sanctuary with beautiful stained-glass artistry behind the stage and a balcony with multiple classrooms. It also has two basements for the children’s ministry, a large entry and fellowship hall with attached kitchen and also a cozy library. Off the fellowship hall is the main office and pastors’ offices. Outside there is a pavilion with roof (added in 2020) and kitchen area and a playground.
The church currently has mission partners in Slovenia, Uganda, and the United States.[ citation needed ]

Kokomo, whose name is also sometimes given as Koh-Koh-Mah, Co-come-wah, Ma-Ko-Ko-Mo, or Kokomoko, was a Native American man of the Miami tribe who lived in northern Indiana at some point probably in the early nineteenth century. The city of Kokomo, Indiana is named after him. David Foster, the founder of the city of Kokomo, is widely quoted as having said, "It was the orneriest town on earth, so I named it after the orneriest Indian on earth—called it Kokomo," but this anecdote may be apocryphal, and it is unclear whether Foster was the one who proposed the name for the city at all.

Meadowlands, at 274 Middlesex Road in Darien, Connecticut, USA, also known as DCA Meadowlands or the Darien Community Association House, enjoys a long, distinguished history. The original house was owned by Mary and Frank Green, a wholesale grocer from New York City. Green built his expansive home in the Victorian style in 1876 and resided there until 1915. The home was then bought in 1918 by Charles D. Lockwood, one of the founders of the law firm Cummings and Lockwood. Covering 52 plus acres, the property extended from Middlesex Road and Leroy Avenue to West Avenue. The property operated as a farm with cattle, chickens and fruit trees. The house at that time had on the first floor a parlor, library, hall, dining room, butler's pantry, china closet, and kitchen; second floor included four bedrooms, all with adjoining baths; and the third floor held one large bedroom and three servants' rooms.
