Ramon Magsaysay Award award

The Ramon Magsaysay Award is an annual award established to perpetuate former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay's example of integrity in governance, courageous service to the people, and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society. The prize was established in April 1957 by the trustees of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund based in New York City with the concurrence of the Philippine government. The award is internationally-recognized as Asia's Nobel Prize counterpart and is the highest award given to Asian individuals and organizations.

She has dedicated herself to the mission of organizing care for cancer patients, study of the disease, research on its prevention and cure, and in developing specialists and scientists in various subspecialties of oncology. Her work has her won several awards, including the Magsaysay Award, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award given by the Government of India.

Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel Indian politician

Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel was the founder of the Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers' Union in 1946, and later the Amul co-operative movement in Anand, Gujarat, India. A freedom fighter, a Gandhian, a fearless leader, a social worker, a tireless advocate, a cooperative philosopher who worked selflessly for the benefit of millions of people in India. Tribhuvandas Patel's single quality that stands out is his utter dislike for self promotion, a quality that many admire in the numerous institutions he built and served.

Chung To (杜聰) is a Chinese AIDS activist, co-founder of the Chi HengFoundation (CHF). He was awarded the 2007 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership.

Benjamin Abadiano is a Filipino lexicographer who has worked in the country's highlands with the Mangyan, Lumad, and other indigenous peoples. Prakash Baba Amte is a social worker from Maharashtra, India. Amte and his wife, Mandakini Amte, were awarded the Magsaysay Award for 'Community Leadership' in 2008 for their philanthropic work in the form of the Lok Biradari Prakalp amongst the Madia Gonds in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra and the neighbouring states of Telangana and Madhya Pradesh.

Therdchai Jivacate is a Thai orthopedic surgeon and inventor known for his humanitarian activities in providing free prosthetic limbs to impoverished amputees, and for his development of techniques allowing low-cost, high-quality prostheses to be made from local materials. The activities of the Prostheses Foundation, which he founded in 1992 under royal sponsorship from the Princess Mother Srinagarindra, have expanded beyond the borders of Thailand to Malaysia, Laos, and Burma. Jivacate has established Thailand's first and only educational institution of occupational therapy at Chiang Mai University. He has also created an educational programme for children suffering from chronic diseases at Maharaj Hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima. In 2008, he was given the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service.

Yang Saing Koma Khmer: យ៉ង សាំងកុមារ is the founder of the Cambodian Center for Study and Development in Agriculture (CEDAC) and renowned for his creative fusion of practical science and collective will that has inspired and enabled farmers in Cambodia. He is recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award.

Antonio Oposa Jr. is a creative litigator, organizer and activist for environmental legislation in the Philippines. Oposa helped to litigate one of the first class-action suits taken by children to oppose environmentally-harmful actions taken by their government: in the 1990s, he represented 43 children from a local village to stop deforestation around the village that had been authorized by the Philippine government, on the basis that the children's rights would be harmed by the deforestation. Though the case was initially thrown out in lower courts on the basis that the children did not have legal standing, the Philippine Supreme Court overturned these, affirming the children did have standing; between both legal and legislative action, the deforestation activity was halted. The case inspired several other environmental cases around the globe, with children severing as the plaintiffs to fight for these rights.

Ernesto O. Domingo is a National Scientist of the Philippines and professor emeritus at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine at UP Manila. He has received the 2013 Ramon Magsaysay Award for his work.
