Silvertown is a district in the London Borough of Newham, in east London, England. It lies on the north bank of the Thames and was historically part of the parishes of West Ham and East Ham, hundred of Becontree, and the historic county of Essex. Since 1965, Silvertown has been part of the London Borough of Newham, a local government district of Greater London. It forms part of the London E16 postcode district along with Canning Town and Custom House.

Major Hugh Boyd Casey is the namesake of the U.S. Army 3,500-acre (14 km2) Camp Casey installation in South Korea, named and officially dedicated in 1952 in his memory. Casey was the son of General Hugh John Casey and was killed after surviving combat for almost two years with the 7th Infantry, in a non-hostile airplane crash during the Korean War while serving in the position of aide-de-camp to the 3d Infantry Division Commander. The 7th Battalion, Essex Regiment was a volunteer unit of Britain's Territorial Army. It was founded by Stephen William Silver in March 1864 as Silver's Indiarubber Works and Telegraph Cable Company Ltd. However in July that year the name was changed to the India Rubber, Gutta Percha and Telegraph Works Company.
Stephen Winkworth Silver was a London business man who established a company specialised in providing campaign and exploration equipment. They also acted as army and colonial agents, as well as shipping agents. He took over and developed S. W. Silver and Co., the second shirt-making business in London, which had been established in 1794.
Stephen William Silver was born to Stephen Winckworth Silver and his wife, Frances Susan Adams, on 7 May 1817. He was a brother of Hugh Silver. They were London merchants, who took over running S. W. Silver and Co. from their father in 1846. He was responsible for developing the company's industrial presence in the area to the west of North Woolwich which became known as Silvertown taking its name from the company.
Oasis Academy Silvertown is a coeducational secondary free school located in North Woolwich in Newham, in London, England. It is part of the Oasis Community Learning. It opened to pupils in September 2014. It moved to this site in September 2016, and will move to its permanent home, in Silvertown in 2022. It was rated 'Good' in its first Ofsted inspection in 2017.
